So TJ, do you or have you seen the "ron paul supporters = terrorist" things coming out.

I find it sorta odd, or coincidental that it seems to happen after the HR bill was passed for "grass roots terrorism"/Thought crimes bill.....

I'm actually not too worried about this question right now. I believe Ron Paul has a legitimate shot at the Republican nomination. I know a lot of people don't see that yet, but there are some cards being played in the next 6 weeks that are going to be considerable. The December 16th fundraiser is going to make the November 5th fundraiser look small by comparison.

But to answer your question, I saw a poll of Paul fans awhile back, and as I recall, the result was 60/40 republicans to democrats... But what that number didn't factor was how many people would jump to the Paul wagon should Obama drop out and Hillary get the nomination. There are a ton of Obama supporters who are Open to voting for Paul if they can no longer vote for Obama.

I think it depends on which issues he emphasizes. His "smaller government" mantra screams traditional Republican values (not the big-spending Bush), but his "non-intervention" policy screams current Democrat thinking. It might be kind of fun to watch...

Excellent article. That's it in a nutshell.

Indeed, his spirited defense of Paul is rooted in his contempt for the pro-war and distinctly neoconservative foreign policy stance at the core of her (Billary's) oily evasions. The contrast with Paul's forthright and principled opposition not only to the Iraq war, but also to the underlying premise and assumptions that govern our foreign policy of global interventionism, can't be evaded by intelligent liberals, of which Greenwald is one.

I also like his closing statement:
Why are they so afraid of Ron Paul? In the face of both Fox News and the hard Left hurling anathemas at him, that's what honest liberals and conservatives are beginning to ask – and I don't think the Smear Bund is going to like their answer.

I'm still amazed that the old liberal camp is lining up behind Billary. Over the years they must have forgotten what they once stood for. Same as the conservatives who stand up for Bush.

And how many Independents are out there (like me) who hang up when pollsters call?

I'm not amazed at it... Branding works. There are some people who will wear nothing but Nike Shoes because that's "their" brand, despite the fact that there are Adidas shoes that might be more comfortable. Look at the Daily Kos. These people don't care about issues as much as they care about electing Democrats, and they're not shy about admitting it.

This is the reason tha Ron Paul has a chance to win the nomination;

"Coming from different directions, and moving toward libertarianism, Sullivan and Greenwald are representative of the many thousands of thoughtful and politically active Americans, on both the Right and the Left, who, brought together under a single antiwar, pro-civil liberties banner, see Ron Paul as a kind of symbol – a hope that real change is possible."

Well that and the shock of the last 7 years of Bush.
