Jimmy Rollins won it instead even though all of the fielding evidence swings in Troy Tulowitzki's favor as being the better defensive player. This happens every year at multiple positions, superior offensive player with more name recognition gets the award over a more deserving guy.

Tulo wasn't deserving of the gold glove. Sure, he led the league in fielding percentage, assists, putouts and double plays - but he didn't do well in some of the other important fielding categories.
I can't remember what they are, but there must be some. Plus, he plays in the thin air at Coors Field, which always boosts a shortstop's fielding numbers. Everyone knows that. ![]() |

You can't be serious. Tulo, while he has a cannon, can't get to half the balls that Rollins makes look routine.
It's one thing to defend your player, but, it's assinine to make blind judgements about another. Rollins is twice the defensive SS that Tulo is. I don't care about stats. Stats only tell you about the balls you field. If you just read the stats, you won't see the huge difference in range between Tulo and Rollins. Wow..... Just WOW! |

Tulo gets to more balls than Rollins. They now have a metric that measures that. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/...umn=zoneRating |

But Jimmy Rollins played in 1,441 innings this year, and he had 717 total chances. Tulo played less innings (1,375) and had more total chances (834). The Rockies pitching staff is filled with a bunch of ground ball guys, so it makes sense he'd have more opportunities. So, Tulo had more putouts and assists (by a pretty wide margin, really) with fewer chances than Rollins. In addition, he had more double plays - again, with fewer opportunities. Honestly, I don't see that you have any basis for your argument, other than being a Phillies fan. Unfortunately, Gold Gloves aren't usually given to the players who deserve them. |

Can you produce a link or something credible that backs up that statement? or, are you referring to all the "diehard" colorado fans? "Tulo gets to more balls than Rollins. They now have a metric that measures that." You really aren't saying that with a straight face are you? Do you really buy that, what did they call it.... "Range factor" as a stat? If you buy that garbage, there is no hope for you as a baseball man. You can't judge range as a stat. It really doesn't matter what I think or what Rockies "fans" think. If you need proof that Rollins is the best Defensive SS in the NL (and offensive btw), take the time and poll the NL's opposing fans. I hear it from the Marlins, Nats, Stros, Cubs, Braves and Mets fans all the time. Chit, if a Met fan can admit that Rollins is better then Reyes, I'm sure they will agree he is better then Tulo. Don't take it as a knock on Tulo. The kid is a stud. He has all the upside, but, right now, Rollins is better in EVERY aspect of the game. Last edited by phillybroncosnut; 11-13-2007 at 09:01 PM.. |
