Default Eslinger signed by Browns from our PS

http://rotoworld.com/content/playerp...rt=NFL&id=3750

Browns signed C Greg Eslinger off the Broncos' practice squad.
The athletic Eslinger was viewed as a decent prospect for zone blocking coming out of Minnesota in 2006, but wound up in NFL Europa this spring. He'll be low on the depth chart behind Hank Fraley and Lennie Friedman.

Browns have actually made some great moves on the o-line in the last couple years. Derek Anderson comes out of every game with a clean jersey. Don't know if Eslinger will ever make it, but this is a team who seems to have gotten its act together.

Preseason the Broncs had a logjam at center, with an All Pro stud in Nalen, Hamilton eager to slide over, and Myers and Eslinger being brought along. Now Nalen's nearing the end and Hamilton could conceivably be forced into early retirement from concussions. Myers could be the only center on the roster in training camp next year (and only Kuper/Holland at guard).

Interior o-line has gone from one of the deepest units to another area of offseason need in 3 months. Trading away all our picks to draft just 4 players this last year doesn't look real smart.

In hindsight, alot of the things done this past offseason don't look real smart. Things could still work out. But the original "plan" for this season looks to be scrapped because of a muriad (sp?) of issues.

Remember, we had a very full roster and we thought it was loaded with talent. At the beginning of the season, we knew there would be some guys that might not even make the practice squad. The small draft was fine this year, I just wish we didn't have to trade away important picks for next year. That was the major bungle. However, the move up to get Marcus Thomas looks solid. We'll see about Jarvis. Crowder is solid. It will be interesting to see if Ryan Harris is in the mix next year since we will almost certainly need some help at OT.

I'm just glad we are noow at the "no job is safe" stage. That makes me hope will will have a better draft of "best player available" rather than reaching for needs.

Khaaaaaan!

I always thought we should use him as a short yardage blocking back. Good mobility, just no anchor, if i recall correctly?

He would have never made it on this team with Hamilton, Nalen, Kuper, Myers, and Holland coming back.

Good luck Eslinger.

True on the mindset this offseason. I remember thinking the o-line in particular was set with quality and depth for years to come, with the exception of another tackle in the next couple years. Injuries to Nalen, Hamilton & Harris; Lepsis looking nowhere near the old Pro Bowl form; Pears treading water developmentally; and Eslinger leaving. Suddenly it looks like Myers, Kuper and maybe Holland (good signing, turns out) are the only guys without big question marks.

It's now hard to find a position on the team not in need. Lots of aging vets; mediocre vets; and one-year rental vets. Need young bodies everywhere. Even the kickers won't be around much longer.

The old off-season philosophy made some sense when the core of the team was older dominant vets who controlled the locker room and had a clear vision of the team (Elway, Nalen, Smith, Wilson, Lynch). I would argue the core is now a bunch of young guys who are still developing and finding out what they will be as pros (Cutler, Marshall, Graham, Dumervil, etc). I don't think the quick, one-year free agent signings work so well in that context. This may be more like a Tennessee model of a very young, multi-year rebuild.

It still seems very questionable that either Hamilton and Nalen will be coming back next season. Hope we sneak Eslinger onto the PS, because we are going to need bodies next year, too.

Remember that Holland was essentially a second stringer in New Orleans, and he has worked out here pretty well. I think Nalen has a better chance of returning than Hamilton, so Center really isn't our priority. If Nalen comes back, the real question is who gets LG, Kuper or Myers? Myers played some RT in college, so does he compete with Pears?

I think we are better off at O-line than D-line. Although this has been a rough year for our o-tackles. Hopefully thhey solidify as a unit as the year progresses. Actually, we might know more about our o-line after Monnday night. The Titans are great against the run, and I believe they are the #2 defense in the league. If we can protect Cutler and have another 100 yard rushing day, it will be because of excellent O-line play. Cross your fingers, this one is big for our team.

I think he is going to be a good player in the NFL. It's just going to take him longer because of his size. He is the type of player that is going to have to master it before he can play because he can't muscle people. He even has a smaller frame than Hamilton and Nalen. He just looks plain skinny even though he is the same weight as those two.

Not it's not. He really struggled. Besides, true fans should be happy for him because he'll make more as a regular roster player.

No power. Really small frame. Good technique in the body of another Mike Leach.

Are you really question whether I'm a true fan or not!?!?!...I watched him for four years dominate here in Minnesota, and then was excited when the Broncos drafted him. Now I'm disappointed because I think he had a future with the Broncos in another season or two, not because he is getting a chance elsewhere. I am happy for him, but disappointed for the Broncos. Usually I agree with your posts, and have a lot of respect for your opinion, but you're just talking out of your ass here.

And I'm not excited for his bank account...no one in the nfl struggles to put food on the table. I am glad that he is getting closer to his dream of playing on sundays.

I think he'll be back too, however all it takes is one more knock and he could be right back where he was two months ago....so I don't know how much we can count on him...but we shall see

I didn't mean you weren't a "true fan" I was saying that you should be happy because he's actually on a roster so it's an upgrade. And the guy fell to the fifth round and has been rotting on the practice squad for two years. After losing both backup Center's, doesn't is say something about what this team thinks of his abilities when they would rather sign a street free agent who hasn't been on a team in over a year as a backup than bring Eslinger off the PS? Seems the staff is making personnel moves "out of there ass" too. Or, maybe it's that we watched him play and realized he doesn't have the size or frame to play at the pro-level.
