Not being able to stop the run is one of the worst problems to have.

Like I said though. The defense stiffened up vs Pittsburgh and then laid an egg the next two games. They need to do it more than one out of three games. |

I think that the W and the four turnovers will help them out... a shot of confidence if there ever was one. Yeah, we might be short on talent...but a W on the road can do wonders.

Tennessee will be a tough task this week......
IMO, they are very similar to Jacksonville.... 1. Both have very good defenses 2. Both have merely okay offenses 3. Both have black QB's who like to run 4. Both like to grind out the game on long drives and while we're at it.... 4. Both are 6-3 5. Both in the AFC South |

They didn't lay and egg VS Green bay. In the end it looked that way, but the whole team played pretty well that day. I'd argue that the defense was better than it was against Pitt.

There is a difference in the second half.
Several non-performers are now gone or riding the bench and we picked up some help in the d-line. The experience for the rookies and second year guys is starting to show up. Bates also apparently decided to adapt to the fact we were getting hammered against the run. On the other hand we have lost several other players to injury since the Jacksonville game. 1. Overall our pass rush is slowly improving. We at least are starting to get close to the QB if not in on him. And one thing that is happening is the rush is not losing contain as much. Containment is going to be a key against Young. We need to blitz him from every side but disguise it. He doesn't read defenses well. If we can get to him in reasonable time he'll dump it or run. You cannot give him a lane to take off in. Young is just plain dangerous as a runner. He is BIG and strong. The LBers and rushers are going to have to play smart and use the angles to cut him off...most of all wrap up and tackle low. 2. The LB play is improving...mostly because the D-line is not getting pushed back as much. 3. Abdullah helped the safety play last week..He should remain active from now on. If we can get Lynch back for leadership back there and the rookies keep improving we should have a good second half...The defense cannot go back to the vanilla crap. We need to keep blitzing and playing to stop the run. We can keep it up this Monday, I hope. Time to start a NEW home field advantage. |

sure, They gave up fewer rushing yards on more attempts, they only gave up 13 points in regulation (19 overall) vs. 28 in regulation against Pitt. Hell half of their passing yards came on 2 passes, they hurt, but 2 plays does not a bad defense make. Especially since one was at Champs expense and we know he is better than that. Hell without the flubbed holding penalty on MArshall, the game wouldn't have even made it into over time overtime and it would have been a convincing victory over one of the better teams in the league. A couple big plays hurt them, and you can't take those out, but overall it was a better defensive performance. I mean damn, they gave up more points in the 4th quarter against Pitt than in regulation against GB.

I was originally thinking the Eagles too, but considering the division they are in, they would REALLY have to step it up to make a significant run. I just don't see how they could finish any better than third in that division.
I'd tend to go with NFC teams for obvious reasons. Seahawks (even though they are in first anyway, their record was only 4-4 at the halfway mark. They will do better), Saints, and Rams. AFC? Broncos definitely qualify. I can't think of anyone else, though. AFC East will remain more or less the same. Texans are the only disappointment in the south and there's no way they will "bounce back" in that division. And the north? I just don't see any significant potential movement there either. |

Youre alluding to Denver no doubt. A mahor problem with is that theres an assumption that teams play at the same level every game. They dont. Pittsburgh has a better OLine, and a better running game, and probably a better defense. The only advantage GB might have on GB is at QB...and even thats debatable. Chicago is GBs only loss and theyre also a 4-5 team.
