Wow. Talk about crappy. He's somewhere between last year and his rookie year. Just a terrible QB.

Looking at all the #1 QB draft picks over the past 10 years, I'm inclined to say that the failure rate for such a high end pick is startling to say the least. He might be good in another year, but right now he has Tim Couch qualities.

Cutler looks like a god in comparison to all the recent QB's out of the draft. I'm really excited about our future.

Somehow he campaigned his way into that top selection. The kid has a very dim future.

That QB class wasn't good at all. Him or Aaron Rodgers? I'd just passed at taken next best option.

Cedric Benson going 4th overall and Troy Williamson 7th shows how bad that draft class was. |

Man, you're right. That's probably even worse than the 2003 class.

Kills me when you read these threads around here about "fans" wanting to lose games so we can get a high draft pick....

Yep, SF just had the crappy luck of bombing during a bad talent year and having to overpay for a average QB.

Must have been fun to root for the Niners when DeBartolo owned them under no salary cap.

My Goodness, Tim Couch had better passing skills than Smith.

I said it in 2005, I'll say it again. If Leinart had come out early Smith and Rodgers don't make it in the first round. The only reason Green Bay took Rogers is he looked pretty comparable to a #1 selection QB. I'm not saying Leinart is god but he actually can play a little football, Smith is a mentally and physically gifted individual but he's not a football player.
SF should've taken Braylon Edwards. Then they could've had their pick of Cutler or Leinart instead of Vernon Davis, who's always injured. But no, they fell into the "we got the #1 pick, gotta take a QB" mindset and they've shot themselves in the foot for the next half decade. They should see what the Browns want for Quinn. He's actually a gamer. |

BTW, if anyone wants to look it up, I believe I said Braylon Edwards was the best player in that draft. Too bad he has been slowed by injuries the last two year. |

The lack of fire from the 49ers tonight was pretty disgusting. Bad enough they can't show up for a nationally televised game, but you would think they might at least avoid getting skunked. I actually thought they might be extra fired up to play well for Coach Nolan tonight.
