If Cutler can't play, Denver could promote practice squad quarterback Darrell Hackney. A weak list of available backups includes ex-Broncos quarterbacks Bradlee Van Pelt, Preston Parsons and Matt Mauck.

In an ironic twist of fate, Broncos backup QB Patrick Ramsey goes down in practice and they are forced to sign Bradlee Van Pelt. Who then carries the Broncos down the stretch in a weak division right into the playoffs.

How can anybody read that list and not be totally thankful we have Patrick Ramsey?! He's the best Bronco backup QB since Gus Frerotte, and before that, Gary Kubiak.

Promote Hackney! At least he's been at practice this season.

Please God don't bring back BVP. If anyone thinks he can lead this team anywhere they are smokin crack. Here's to Ramsey being fine and Cutler healing fast.

Yawn.
I'll take Hackney over VanPelt any day. That little dude has a cannon arm, and he could run it also. Bradlee always played like a deer in the headlights. VanPelt was an interesting player in college, but he just wasn't a pro. Never had enough "it" to be an NFL QB. BTW, Cutler will be back next week... |

if Ramsey goes down, I'd just kinda like to see Mike Leach take some snaps
At least then the games might be entertaining. |

BVP would have been a descent choice to backup our QB if we still had Plummer.
But now that we have Cutler i think Ramsey is the right man for the job. |

I can't imagine BVP being any better than Mike Leach... Both seem to struggle with the forward pass

We went 4-0 with him in 1998, and he had a higher QB rating then Elway that year. |

Hugh Millen was also a decent back up for us

BVP would never be the decent choice as a back up QB. He was horrible at passing and was better suited as a FS or LB but don't tell him that.

I haven't seen anything in Ramsey that gives me any confidence that he can win. Oh, except throw over and behind a receiver... does that count?

I was impressed with Hackney in the preseason. He was accurate, could scramble, throw on the run, and elude the rush; all of that on a six foot frame. I may not be the best judge of talent, but I liked what I saw. The guy made completions...

I think Hackney might be a guy that good to come into a game if your starter hurt like Senca Wallence. But he isn't a viable option if the starter goes down for multiple games
