Default Is this the Worst Bronco team?

I think many of the late sixties/early seventies teams were worse...
but they had more HEART than this one.

Stupid play execution and Stupid play calling, combined with lack of
talent and lack of effort.

Nowhere near the worst, but far and away the most gutless Broncos team I've watched in my 30 years as a fan.

I am an older fan (been going to games since 1972). The Broncos have had some truly horrid seasons. The difference is that now we have talent, some of it isn't on the field due to injuries and some of it isn't being used effectively. We don't have any Bronco mojo this year. I am not bitter, but realistic. It's not our turn. I think we are two to three years away from being intimidating. We really need to get our home field advantage back and then things will fall into place. This year I am not going to throw any tantrums or call for Coach's head (a stupid suggestion in my opinion). I am going to watch young players develop and trust that our investment with our youthful players will pay dividends within a couple of years.

Worst team I remember. I've only been a fan for about 25 years though...

I'm glad I didn't drop $60 on this game like I was going to. I would have much rather spent the $150 to see Michigan State almost upset Michigan. At least they have heart. This is the weakest group of quitters I've ever seen. If it were much worse, we'd have a roster full of Eddie Kennisons.

I said in another thread that I thought the 1990 5-11 team and the 1999 6-10 team could be worse. But now that I think about it, the 1990 team would probably beat this team (because of Elway). And while the 1999 team was just as riddled by injuries, that team played its ass off every week (and they were a top 5 team in the league the next year!) So, I gotta say this is the worst Broncos team I have seen in my football watching lifetime.

Not even close. The Broncos of the 60s had consecutive year wins of 2,2,4,4and 3.

But the difference was that we expected the worst back then. What makes this year so crushing is that we thought we would be in contention.

Wow. How wrong can you be.

As bad as Denver is right now.....we're only 1 freakin' game behind the division leader. Apparently the NFC Central is kicking all of our collective arses.

3-5 is a pretty good record, considering how terrible our team has played the first 2 months.

We definitely need some upgrades on the O-line; Shanahan needs to fire Dennison and let Nalen coach them. Those guys have no leadership right now.

On the defensive side; who knows how to fix this sieve? Bates is not delivering what was promised, but you have to give him more than 1 season to fix things, right?

Doc you are right on. Shanahan had us fans believed that we might have had a chance this year. It has been a rebuilding year but he tricked us into thingking that we could have a shot. He and the owner know that this was and is a rebuilding year. Most fans are just starting to realize this some knew from the start.

Anyone over 8 years old should know this sin't the worst team, but they sure know how to roll over when the chips are down. This may be the weakest defensive team I can think of. They're Snuggle soft.

That 82 team was pretty bad. That was the strike year and we went 2-7. But this years team isn't good either.

I agree with Alec -- this team doesn't seem to play with much heart.

The 1999 team was worse. Although there are similarities -- young QB, key injuries, NFC North.

Reading all the posts about the 2007 Broncos being the worst ever makes me feel like an old man. I can remember a number of teams being worse than the current edition of the Broncos. ScottXray’s thread included a number of words and phrases to describe bad:
Heartless, gutless, lack of talent, lack of effort, and horrid
However, I want to address those folks who had high hopes in August and are feeling real depressed right now. Here are a few teams that high hopes, and in my mind, suffered greater disappointment:

1981 10 wins and 6 losses No postseason

1989 11 wins and 5 losses Lost Super Bowl XXIV (49ers) 55-10

1991 12 wins and 4 losses Lost Conference Championship (Bills) 10-7

When your starting quarterbacks are Shawn Moore and Tommy Maddox, you experience real hopelessness.

In 1993 the Broncos made the playoffs, but lost to the Raiders three times. You want to talk about a clueless defense? Just look at the expression on Charlie Waters’ face and check out Charlie’s body language during the 42 to 17 loss to the Raiders in the AFC Wildcard game. No need to inundate me with a lot of meaningless statistics from the 1993 season. Watch the Wildcard game, pause the tape or dvd when Charlie is being filmed, and then tell me what you think.

Typically great post, Clean. To expand on this somewhat, look at the 1988 team. The defense imploded in week 8 and they gave up 55, 42, 42 and 39 points in blowout losses in the final nine weeks.

The following season, they went to the Super Bowl.

1988 Denver Broncos

where is the: timeouts to get your defense (not offense) on the same page stat? This defense is the worst with the most potential I have ever seen...many of the players are lost out there and don't like the system...I think you'll hear something about it this week.

That 55-21 Colts game in 88 was a Halloween Monday Nighter and one of THE most humiliating losses in my tenure as a Bronco Fan. Today's loss, the Roc Alexander playoff game against the Colts and the 55-10 drubbing against the Niners in the SB are a couple more that stick out in my mind. I'm sure if I thought about it more I'd come up with a few more (and be really depressed).
