Default Wilson, Alexander out for Sunday's showdown

Two Patriots defenders will miss Sunday's highly anticipated showdown with the Colts.

Safety Eugene Wilson and linebacker Eric Alexander were downgraded on the Patriots' injury report Saturday. Both players are now listed as out for Sunday's game at Indianapolis.
» Week 9 injury report | Fantasy injury report

Wilson has started in five of the Patriots' seven games this season.

Additionally, the Patriots have signed DB Ray Ventrone to their active roster from their practice squad. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Ventrone was signed to the Patriots practice squad on Sept. 19. Ventrone will wear number 41 for New England.

Ventrone, 24, was originally signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2005. The 5-foot-10-inch, 200-pound defensive back spent the 2005 season as a member of New England’s practice squad. The Villanova product played in NFL Europe during its 2006 season and started all 10 games at safety for the Cologne Centurions. After spending the 2006 season on injured reserve, Ventrone was signed by the New York Jets on Feb. 21, 2007. He was released by the Jets in the final preseason roster cuts on Sept. 2, 2007 and was signed to New York’s practice squad two days later. Ventrone was released from the Jets practice squad on Sept. 12, 2007. He has not played in an NFL game.
