Default Mock Update! He's awake!

With many thanks to BroncoBuff and ca412 for tracking him down, we have been able to confirm the whereabouts of Mock, and get the full story. And in Mock fashion, it's a strange one!

You might have heard recently about the Salmonella-tainted peanut butter that has been affecting people particularly in the mid-west. It appears that Mock was one of the victims.

Here is the story as it was relayed to me (thanks BroncoBuff):

He picked up his mother May 27 or 28 to drive down together to to see his brother David in Arkansas and help with the harvest.

On the way down he became very sick, and told his mother that it was peanut butter. He toughed it out and was taken to a hospital in Little Rock when he arrived.

They gave him medication - and he had a reaction to the medication - his toungue swelled up, and his airway was constricted. He was (still is) in ICU in Little Rock.

He is responding some now, but has a hard time talking (which is largely thanks to the intubation tube they've got in him to keep his air passage open). He whispered to one of David's farm-workers "get me a beer," which they took as a good sign.

I've personally spoken to his mom, and things are looking up. He's had a couple of set backs, but there is a definite feeling of optimism coming out of her, and she seems genuinely touched that his "Internet friends" have tracked him down to wish him well. BroncoBuff was able to actually converse with him. As I understand it, it wasn't so much conversing as talking to him and letting him know that people on the board are thinking of him. Mock's mom says that his eyes lit up during the exchange, but it tired him out and he was resting when I called.

We agreed that it would probably be best if there weren't a whole lot of phone calls from well wishers until it was clear that he was out of the woods. In the meantime, she says that she felt he would absolutely respond well to cards and well wishes sent to his hospital room.

Cards are VERY welcome asap:

Brian Pelzer
University of Arkansas Medical Center
Room 463
4301 W. Markham St.
Little Rock, AR 72205

Buff an I will maintain contact with his mother to check in on his progress. At some point, he's going to be well enough to talk to friends over here who care to call him. Until that point, it's probably best that we keep it to cards and letters.

...and prayers.

Excellent news TJ. I'd send him some Guinness but dont know if they'd allow it in the hospital.

I love peanut butter. I love lawyers. I ain't got no tainted peanut butter but I got me some tainted lawyers. I hope Mock can put the two together and file a classless action suit.

Fantastic news. Get well Mock.

Wow - peanut butter taking down Mock is like the bacteria taking down the aliens in War of Worlds.

I vote we make him change his handle from Watermock to Peter Pan or Skippy. Jiff may even have legs or we could just nickname him Chunky.

What would a STFU sound like with a wad of chunky stuck to the roof of his mouth?

All the best, Mock. Keep your chin up and heal fast.

Crazy bastard! He should sue them now. Mock could end up independently wealthy, like Tom Smykowski on Office Space!

This is a story that would be completely crazy.... if it weren't Mock. But for him this is par for the course. I am so glad he is doing better. Now he just needs to clear those last hurdles and get on the mane in time for the season.
