Kansas team scores 72 in first quarter; wins 86-0 Associated Press SMITH CENTER, Kan. -- Smith Center scored 72 points in the first quarter of a high school football game Tuesday night on the way to an 86-0 win over Plainville, according to a report in the Salina, Kan., Journal. Smith Center forced six turnovers in the first quarter as it racked up what is believed to be a record for points in a quarter by a high school team, the paper reported. The previous record was 66 by Prescott, Ariz., in 1925. The defending state champion has outscored its opponents 640-0 so far this season, including a 69-0 win over Plainville earlier this year. They have won 50 consecutive games, there a 2a school, and their oline averages 250lbs. and nobody has scored on them this year |

Great "D" the rest of the game, held the powerhouse to 14 points over the rest of the game. Hard to overcome a 72 point defeicit with three quarters to play.

That's ridiculous. 72 pts in one 12 minute quarter means they were scoring a TD for every minute of the game.
The opponents would be better off just taking a knee every down and then kicking the ball out of bounds. It would cut the score in half at worst. |

So you're saying that we could beat a high school team? I agree! (maybe not the team who won, but definitely the one that lost!)

Who the hell is that team playing? Is the competition level that bad in Kansas? Or are they just playing in a very weak division? I'm not going to entertain the thought that they are that good.

They have beat three teams that are 8-2 by 60 or more, so I would say they beat the good and the bad.

We were 8-1 and had to play Smith Center in the playoffs in the 80's. Got creamed by a bunch of muscle-heads foaming at the mouth. They've been running it up on people for over 20 years. They had a bye the last week of this season, cause nobody wanted to play them. Let's just say the roid-river is running well through this small farming community.

I believe they've won like 50 games in a row. They run the wish-bone and hardly ever pass. Smith Center has not punted once this season!

one of these days, a coach is gonna run his 3rd stringers out against these boys and chop block/late hit their way to a respectable 50 point loss with heavy casualties to the Smith Center crew.
p.s. our D IS bad... |

Here's a fact most of you probably didn't know. One of Smith Center's most "famous" alumnus is Mitch Holthus, the radio voice of the Chiefs. Suffice to say, he's not seeing those kind of scores out of his current employer...

Sounds like that little 2A team needs to move up to 4A or 5A and play with the big boys, rather than picking on a bunch of guys that won't play college ball.

They may be good, but they have a long way to go to get "Concorde De LaSalle" status. Have any of their players gone on to the NFL? DJ Williams and Maurice Drew Jones are De Lasalle graduates.

Quote:
Kansas as a whole in HS is pretty weak in football. They have some strong programs (Olathe North comes to mind) but all the great HS football is played on the Missouri side in Kansas City. Blue Springs, Blue Springs South, Rockhurst. Midwest powers and at times national powers. The balance of power is pretty tilted though. State titles are usually won in the district play of Kansas City for the right to embarrass some St. Louis team. Last edited by ZachKC; 11-01-2007 at 04:25 AM.. |

Here are the big name alums for smith center.
Notable natives Steve Tasker, National Football League wide receiver Nolan Cromwell, former National Football League safety and current assistant coach Mark Simoneau, National Football League line backer for the New Orleans Saints and for zack in KC there are a suprising amount of good football players in western kansas. They typically wont get recruited out of high school, go play juco, and then get offers to 4 year schools. |

Are you disputing that fact? When the Chiefs and the Rams play each other, it's for the Missouri Governor's Cup. When you buy a hot dog in Arrowhead, the sales tax goes to Missouri. It's as close to Kansas as you can get, but it IS a Missouri team...
