Default Frank Okam DT - Other UT-OU prospects

Of course both teams have loads of talent so i'll just throwing names out there.

Frank Okam #97 DT UT- The guy suits up as well as any guy i've seen at DT. He is huge but he looks like a built thoroughbred horse. The guy is strong on the LOS, not always good with his hands or his pad level but he has a burst for a guy his size that you don't really see from many at the position. When in shape, I imagine he could make a bunch of plays coming down the line. I wouldn't say he is a big game player but he has tremendous potential as a plugger and a DT in our system. He'll need work with his hands at the next level but from what i've seen, I think he could do very well for us. I don't like that he doesn't have more stats in some of his games. He just disappears sometimes. He has 3 sacks this year against Arkansas State and Rice. None against the TCU's or OU's of the world. He has 5 sacks for his career. He also stands straight up on some plays. Draft publications will say he wears out easily. It almost looks like it comes so easy and he is saving himself though.

If you are expecting him to come in and bring heat on the QB think again. He could be good for the power aspect of this defense though. He plays strong and should be able to take up blockers.

At this point, I think Okam is the only DT the Broncos can legitimately target in the first or second round.

Tony Hills is a powerful LT prospect for the Longhorns. While he is only good athlete, his feet can be a little slow every once in awhile. He would grade out to a 2nd round prospect for me but he brings some upside to the table. He brings more power to the table than we are used to and should be a very good run blocker. I think he could be a very good prospect at RT for us. He is by far a better prospect at tackle than Erik Pears. I saw Hills come off on a combo block with the TE on his DE... he pancaked his DE and picked up the backer coming towards him. Very impressive.

Junior WR for OU, Malcom Kelly looks like a replica of Reggie Wayne to me. Same type of speed, same type of hands. Very impressive player.

I really like Curtis Lofton, MLB for the sooners. Very solid form tackler who always seems to be by the ball.

In last week's game it seemed that Iglasius (sp?) always came up with the critical catch

I like Hills, but there are several OTs I would take before him

I would say that Hills is the prefect left tackle in the zone blocking scheme.I think he would be a great second round pick. He could take over for Lepsis at LT and compete with Pears at RT tackle. I Like both Hills and Dre Moore in the second round. Okam would be a good pick in the first but the #1 on my wish list is Conner.

Tough to say with Okam. The guy has the ability to dominate but I don't think anybody will ever say that he has.

He's a boom or bust type but thats the problem with some of these DT's that come out each year. A team is lucky if they find one of those hungry one's.

I like Hills. It will be interesting to see how we finish up the year. NFLDRAFTSCOUT has Okam ranked as the fourth or fifth DT on the board saying he could fall somewhere between the 2nd round and the 3rd round.

I would love to go LB/DT in the first depending on where we're at.

Anybody have our exact number of draft picks and in which round?

I can't believe they have Okam rated that low. I guess he is not the penetrating type that gets sacks, thus publicity. I have heard plenty of talk about him taking plays off, but the upside is that he is a smart guy and a good student. Someone told me that has made statements to the effect that he may skip pro football to continue with his schooling and career.

I would also like DT/LB in the first if the proper guy is there, but I would be very happy with an OT as I have no faith in Harris developing.

I am probably wrong, but I beleive the Broncs have 1, 2, 4, 4, 5, 7, 7.

Somone will be here soon to correct me.

I had Okam in my first-round draft on October 1st, and I've seen nothing that would make me change that. I don't think he plays up to the elite ability he has, but he's an excellent fit here. Draft him in the first, and we have a Gatorhorn defensive line. (Moss, Thomas, Okam, Crowder)

bpc - since all I have are what I see on TV to work with how about your observations on the following players:

1. J Leman MLB Illinois - he seems to make half of the tackles in every game non stop motor

2. Tashard Choice RB Georgia Tech - a grinder who never quits

3. Chris Williams OT - Vandy - appears to have great feet and near perfect technique

4. Jonathan Goff MLB - Vandy - Smart as they come and a great leader

and here is my sleeper:

Kraig Urbik - OG Wisconsin - slow, but if there is a stronger road grader out there, I haven't seen him. Everytime Wis needs a tough yard they run Hill over him.

I'll look out for those guys. I have a bunch of tape recorded film coming in right now.

I'm eager to see guys like Ezra Butler from Nevada and Beau Bell from UNLV. I haven't seen Dan Connor or Shawn Crable play yet either.

Another guy i'm high on and i'm sure Socal may have a better take as he watches ACC ball a bunch is Philip Wheeler from GTech. We need to go old school and get some football savy leaders in there.

I haven't really seen Calais Campbell, I could see him declaring early. Anybody think he can play DT? I know he could put on weight. Socal?

Even though the Broncos like their athletic, speedy 4.5 timed linebackers - it might be time to break the tradition and go for the guys who play hard-nosed, badass throwback style linebacker. The prospects mentioned in the past two posts are interesting considering I watched the GT/Miami game back and forth with the Illinois/Iowa game.

Leman's just a baller. I don't think he'll run well - but he'd be a good NFL player. At the very least, I think he's a special teams guy. He just always seems to be around the ball and reminds a little bit of Zach Thomas with the tenacity and demeanor he displays on the field. I don't think he's that good in coverage but he looked decent against the Hawkeyes. He's probably a fringe Day 1 dude.

Tashard has had three great games. Again, the guy has pretty good size - but isn't going to time very well. Scouts Inc. is saying he's a poor man's Emmitt Smith. I've seen a few GT games this year and I see a guy who has excellent vision and makes the right cutbacks. He just runs hard and finishes the play. He's great inside the tackles, and I think he'd be a nice pick in the second-round if he were available and if we needed a guy.

Only seen some snippets from some Vandy games but I have been talking about Goff for a while now. He's exactly the kind of middle linebacker I want on this team, and is one of my favorite prospects in the draft. If we could nab him in round two, that'd be gravy.

Haven't seen Ezra Butler or Beau Bell either this year, mainly because they don't play on big named teams.

Philip Wheeler will probably go to some 3-4 team, but I do like him. I actually like him a lot better outside for us than I would inside because I don't know if he has all the beef to play inside and has that sort of nice speed and lateral movement you like to see from players especially outside, in particular WILL. He's a border-line first-round guy, but I do like him a lot.

Even though we have young defensive ends for the future, Kenny Iwebema from Iowa caught my eye the other day. He's undersized (Will probably measure near 6'3 - 255) but has some great technique and gets to the passer. When he pushed the LT into the QB to force the INT with 1:30 minutes to go that was pretty impressive. He could be a nice guy to look for on Day 2 if we get rid of someone like Engleberger or Ekuban, and since Mr. Simeon Rice is a one year rental.

Hope you guys enjoyed that, sorry that I answered - but I figured you'd enjoy the opinion.

I was going to ask about Wheeler, but I have no doubt he will become a quality NFL player. Smart, tough and a great leader

Interesting thought and I've read some good things about him. Especially in the leadership department. What does he do the best? If he could serve as a Mike Lodish type of player, I would be good with that.
