Default We need a losing season to weed out the bad fans

Do yearly playoffs and championship wins bring in bad fans?

We haven't had a truly bad year in a long time. Does anyone remember what the fans were like before '97? I remember Rod Smith being annoyed in 2005, when the fans boo'ed our boys off the field at halftime (we later went on to win the game, and brought the AFC championship game to denver)

Today I see more boo's and fans leaving at half time.

Here's what Brandon Marshall had to say,

"You gonna be a broncos fan, be a broncos fan. Don't boo us when we down... That's bandwagon... and when we start winnin, then what? I mean, we make our mistakes and we're gonna lose. Ya know rockies winnin... and at the beginning of the season you filled the stands, now you want to fill the rockies stands? Do the same thing for us, but 100% all the time. When we losin, we losin ya'll stay in the seats. I mean I love you all to death, but at the same time that's not first class. It's a first class organization. It's only my 2nd year here, but we win here. Ya'll been here longer than me, you know we win here. You have your ups and downs in football."

Are the mile high fans spoiled? When broncos are down by 17 points, should they be boo'ed?

You've been a fan longer than me! Do you think the fans have changed this decade?

Funny people think booing makes you a bad fan. It's just a fans way of voicing displeasure over the state of the game or the team. Just because you are a homer doesn't make you a better fan. Different people express jubilation and frustration in different ways. People who think they are more loyal because they don't boo are self rightous. Brandon Marshall should shut up and hold onto the ball. Any real football player knows that debacle today deserved to be booed. That was the most pathetic game I have ever seen the Broncos play.

Marshall doesn't know the trouble I've seen with the Broncos over the years. In 1976, the team had it's first fricking winning season that meant anything under Ralston. Fans stuck with them, yeah, but they had no expectations beyond maybe winning this coming game. Today, you spend a lot of money to get to the game, and I think you expect effort from the players. Ups and downs, yeah, but they didn't even try today, it seems. Most of the mistake the Broncos made wwere form the lack of concentration or effort.....

There is so damm much hype about these games, the players and the league. The crap from trolls and similar sources of aggravations, challenges and BS play into the intensity of expectations. Frankly, I also think fantasy football also has been a real pain in the bums, and has changed the focus of the game from entertainment to something else. Instant communications on message boards add to the expectations.

Darn right I was spoiled. The Broncos had done well over the decade. They recently spent a hella lot of money to bring in a "Sack leader". Why shouldn't I have high expectations?

Give an effort and you won't get booed.....

The Broncos are asking us to step up. We're asking them to step it up too. Why don't we initiate? If you have tickets, cheer the home team for an entire game and see what happens.

Fans were cheering early in the game, then saw what happened, sat dumbfounded as it got worst and worst, booed a little, then went home. To me that's pretty understandable given the game.

It's not crazy, it's just bandwagoneers. You and me are different though ... I've been a fan since 1970, and the Broncos are tatooed on my DNA. Same with CU.

There's nothing wrong with bandwagoneers really ... (I'm on the Rockies bandwagon now), but they better NOT kick the team when it's down. Shut yer b****ing pie-holes and quietly disembark. If you do politely, we might welcome you back when times are better.

To be fair to the fans, it's more a collective boo. The Broncos have won 2 of thier last 8 games at home, I believe. That's a seasons worth of football. Fans are tired of it. It's a lot of money to pay for season tickets only to pull out 2 wins for a seasons worth of games.

Frankly, that's not getting your moneys worth.

I feel the same about the Chiefs. Though I have the luxury of knowing we are in transition and expected a down season, it still doesn't make it easy to lay out the money and have your ass handed to you.

To be honest, for those fans that sit home and watch the games on TV not shelling out the dough for season tickets, you really have no right to judge the fans who have spent the money for tickets. It's much easier to "get over it", if you have nothing invested.

If we do have a losing season then it'll go a looooong ways to proving to the FO and Mike Shanahan that you can't play musical chairs with defensive talent year in year out.

We've had what? 40 different DL in that past five years come and go through Dove Valley? Folks this was bound to happen. Every year we flush away the turds along the DL and bring in new ones with the vain hopes that somehow changing DLs, D-Coaches will solve our defensive woes.

Thank God we at least drafted some guys in Crowder, Moss, Doom, Thomas. Next year we can bring in better LBers and DTs and give this team a chance.

In the meanwhile let's not try and not get embarressed again.

You know what we really need?

Five to ten losing seasons in a row. That would separate the wheat from the chaff, by golly.

We need to go on a Detroit Lionesque losing skein that engulfs an entire generation of Bronco fans. That's exactly what's required to purge our fan base of these booing, pussified, easy-to-quit, mamby pamby types.

We will forge a new breed of superfan that never gets down on players who display an utter lack of professionalism on and off the field. Nor will we ever question upper management that retains markedly inferior players because they're a "better fit for the system".

Lose on!

Like the Bronco fans are the only ones to boo their team. J/C. The Eagle fans boo their team all the time, damn Packer fans with record boy Favre was getting booed last night, and they had a 4-0 record ! I know some players looked like it was a Sunday strole out there smiling game long , more concerned about helping a Charger player back to his feet. I dont believe this season excuse either, were just missing gaps here & there, thats getting old. Maybe because the other team has more talent and playing with more passion. I love the Broncos and will always root for them, just not used to seeing the Bronco product thats on the field. Maybe had too high of hopes that the defense and special teams would improve and see it w/ each game. Unfortunately thus far its been just the opposite. I think Marshall is going to be a great talent, but I saw his lack of effort when the game was out of reach still smiling like the team was going 5-0.

And those 2 wins were because of a missed extra point (Cincinnati), and a strategically called time out (Oakland)......

I'm ok with the bad seasons and the good. Regarding the fanbase, they actually accomplish the opposite result. During bad seasons we GAIN by losing the bandwagon fans, but during the good seasons we LOOSE by gaining the bandwagon fans!

Good post. I think the best representation of "Real Broncos fans" is preseason. You also see them at training camp. I love meeting the people who drive half way across the country just to see a practice or two.

I remember laughing at graffiti on street signs dissing the team after the Broncos lost to the Giants (Superbowl) my Jr. year in highschool . People were gone until the next year only to wash their fandom down the drain soon thereafter. It's a cycle that I imagine all teams go through. Nothing new really and it makes the good times that much better. Just wait until Indi and NE have some bad seasons.
