Default Tom Jackson on Sports Center

He and Chris Berman were reviewing the game and they showed a shot of the empty stands at the end of the third quarter. Tom said, "I have never seen that, in the old Mile High, or the new stadium, the stands empty at the end of the third quarter."

Come to think of it, neither have I. I have never left a Bronco game early. What's going on? Aren't the majority of season ticket holders still the people who have had them for decades, or has the fan base shifted over to a corporate base, like so many other stadiums in the league? Or was this performance such a stinker that even the old stalwarts couldn't take it any more?

I wasn't there, but I have a feeling the rain had a lot to do with it. Sitting down, having a beer, and watching your team get blown out is one thing. But doing it in pouring rain? Insult to injury, if you ask me. I doubt I would have watched that in the rain.

By the time the score reached 34-3 and the Broncos showed no heart, were strolling around at times and were struggling to make a first down, it became too much. It was a mass protest as people turned to their neighbors nodded, said goodbye and got up and left.
This was not a section that had been booing earlier, they were trying their best to make noise and be supportive. But the feeling that the team had packed it in seemed to spread, and people were getting pissed off at the obvious lack of effort. They almost in unison got up and left in disgust. Some have expressed opinions that these were bandwagon fans. Nothing could be further from the truth. As fans we have no real voice in how the team is built or coaches are chosen. But we are allowed to demonstrate our disapproval by 'voting' with our feet. For those who weren't there, some will have difficulty accepting that a crowd can act en-masse and show its dissatisfaction with the Bronco's organization. I have never seen anything like it at a Broncos game....and neither had anyone else I spoke with. Bowlen will have seen the exodus and it will get his attention.....much more so than booing. The crowd sent a message. Put a better product on the field.

Today, I felt that the team didn't play hard.
They look lost in the field.

I felt the same while watching the Indy game(especially in 4th QTR).

I blame the loss on coaches and veterans(Lynch, Bailey etc)

They should make sure that each player play with passion.

I too would have left by 3rd QTR..

Y'know, I can kinda... sorta... maybe understand the "en masse exit" as a tool to send a message to management that the product on the field was subpar. Nonetheless... some of us fans right here on the Mane travel halfway across the country to see this team play. No, we would not have left until the last seconds had ticked off of the clock.

My brother left at the start of the 4th. Why stay? Freezing rain, horrible play, no desire from the team, why the heck stay?
The only other time I left early was against the Redskins a few years back when they beat us with Kent freakin Graham, THAT weather was dreadful and seeing the team play like shiit, yeah.

I'm gonna be honest, I would've left after it was 34-3. And I would've had to travel. Rather make it back to spend some more time with my mom than watch that in those conditions.
Go ahead, say what you want, but I wouldn't waste my time watching that shiity performance anymore.

Shanny and Bowlen need to know that the fans hard earned money will not be wasted on players who don't care! If losing does not get the owners attention, then money will. I love the Broncos, but they just don't care on the field.

No. He knows that once the Broncos are playing out in the nice weather of Sandy Eggo, all the Bronco fans filling the stands will stay til the end.

If you combine the absolutely miserable weather conditions with the stench permeating from the crap on the field, and you would have a strong temptation to leave early too.

Yep! We had wicked winds/sleet/snow in Cleveland and stayed until the end...we were also getting our butts kicked in Diego last December and stayed until the end...some of the Charger fans left before LT got the TD records...

Agreed, why stay and get wet, cold and sick when the team you are cheering for doesn't care either?

I stayed for the entire game...managed to wrangle a few free beers in the last couple of minutes..didn't help, frankly.

Watched a few Charger players taunting Bronco fans as they left the field..all the while, the Bronco fans asking Charger players something about their heritage (in rather loud shouted questions I might add)...and a few Bronco players walking off the field talking and laughing, which didn't seem right, but hey, the whole day wasn't right.

Nightmare on 38th street. So what?

The Steelers gang rape the Chiefys 45 to 7 last year & Bobo tells us 'it happens'

Lothe though I am to quote a mindless fool, however, I can add my own spin;

**it happens...seems more fitting.

Bronco players talking and laughing at the end of this blowout? Thats crazy talk! There is no way Shanny would bring in players who take plays off and only worry about themselves. I am sure deep down the players were really torn up about the blowout and the direction of the ball club and they were just hiding it so the children watching wouldn't cry. I bet they are already putting their game checks in the mail with a "return to sender" written on it knowing they didn't deserve it. Don't worry, their laughter was about what they are going to do to everyone on the rest of the schedule... lookout NFL... the Bates defense is here!!

I think it's obvious that the loss of Brandon and Wilson were huge on the defense.

The Dline is very very young so they will get better next year. Denver needs a stud veteran DT if possible and get a saftey or two.

We should have thought this was a big deal earlier, but.....

How big is the loss of Al Wilson, Keith Burns, and Rod Smith in the same season? I realize that Rod can come bak in game 7, and he's probably been on the field in street clothes, but you can't replace being in uniform on game day.

To lose three team captains from last season, especially those guys, has ripped the heart and soul right out of this team. Lynch is the only vet that had a prayer of replacing them. Cutler is not ready yet to be the inspirational leader of this team. This season will be all about young guys stepping up and learning how to be catalysts that make everyone else around them perform better.

I'll keep saying it...

It's the WAY we're losing.

I've only been to one home game, but I've watched for a few decades. I've watched our fans support worse teams in freezing rain with playoffs out of reach.

Our fans just left today because they were disgusted. I absolutely can't blame them.

This is different, guys. This isn't just losing. This is a brand of football we're just not used to seeing. It's quitter-ball. It's soft, weak, spineless football.

Teams LOVE playing us. Friggin' Marshall Faulk said he'd be drooling to run against our defense.

I don't know how else to describe it other than just saying it's not just losing.
New Orleans is winless and I SWEAR they play with more guts than we do. So do the Rams, for that matter.

Bronco fans aren't used to seeing an organization just mail it in every week. I'm telling you... this is different. We have a bunch of guys out there that just can't be bothered to care. We have a few who do.... but more who don't.

Did you see the look on Lynch's face during that last Turner TD? He just looked like he'd never seen anything like it.

It's not numbers. Hell, 2-3 into a bye week isn't the end of the world. It's the way it's happening that's so despicable, and the fans today just had enough.

It was like living through the plagues. First the blow-out. Then the wind picked up and blew trash in our faces. Then the blow-out got out of hand. Then it started to rain. So we let his people go.

I dont mind the pepps leaving. It is one thing for us fans that dont live in Denver will see their team play to the end. Like Sassy said, we stayed to the dreadful end of last years san diego game. I am glad i only saw the last quarter because I was at Angels stadium watching my Angels suck it up 9 to 1. With USC losing to a crappy Stanford team, this was not a good sports weekend at all. Plus, my high school team (class of 88) lost on Friday. I went back just looking to see if one of my teams won and nothing... unless you count the Jags taking it to the Chiefs. To those who left early, good for you! Show the team you arent watching that crap.

My, what a GREAT post. This is what disgusts me. Not that we are losing, but we are looking PATHETIC losing. The starting field position has to be the worst in the NFL.
2-3 wouldn't be the end of the world if we were in these ball games, but we've gotten smacked around. Its like they are loafing and just out there trying to get paid while the other team WANTS to win. Argh.
