The Broncos look a lot like those 98 Chiefs that went 7-9 and had Marty throw his hands up and say "Forget it." Will Mike do the same thing if things continue this way? Do you care?

Sad to say the people he has picked resemble the misfits that Marty had when he got desperate. When a mans character is not taken into account when we add them to the team, you end up with the Travis Henry situation just like Chiefs did with the potheads they had back in those days.

The ill will among the players was pretty clear as todays game progressed. The team doesnt seem to have respect for or faith in the coaching.

Shanahan will be the reason this team finishes with a losing record.

Too many changes all at once. It is clear that the defensive scheme does not fit the players that we have, we must change up the scheme. Shanahan did make alot of changes to the coaching staff and the buck stops with him.

How many of the changes were made when the coaches bailed....they may have been more interested in getting away from Mike than we ever knew?

Its time Shanahan pulls the vets in behind closed doors to get a players read on the team. There is obviously a disconnect between what the coaches are asking and the players are doing. This is not just a coaching issue. Ask Rod Smith.

Sometimes, sometime's, change is good for both a franchise and a coach.

Burn out happens to everyone.

Rods time came and went as did he. Now perhaps its time for the same at the coaching level.

I wish fans of the Denver Broncos would learn how to spell the name of the coach that's been here for thirteen years.

I keep waiting for someone to point out how "Shannahan" hasn't won a Super Bowl without that Ellway guy.

Dude, you have absolutely zero credibility here. You've probably been saying this every season since he took the job, which makes you one for twelve.

One for twelve, moron! You're the example of the the concept, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day."

The team needs this year to learn, then an offseason of rebuilding, then another year, then another offseason of buidling. Unless Shannahan really wants to do at least 3 more years and rebuild his way I think he should step down. This team is not even close to being ready to compete on defense. They need at least 6 starters on the defensive side to even think about being good.

Iam not sure alot of people were projecting a winning record with our team under some construction phases to tell you the truth i would be happy with 8-8. To expect anything more out of this team IMO is only setting yourself up for a meltdown like you can already see some people on this board are doing. Sure today sucked it sucked really bad our team buried itself early and never recovered but i will tell you one thing our youngsters will learn from this experience and that will help in the long run.

Plus, now is not our time. There are others, and we know who they
are,that are the elite teams.
We need time to gel. It's going to be painful, but to call for MORE
wholesale changes will just make matters much worse.

Cutler needs time.We ARE in transition.
We need to buckle down and see who wants to play.

This MS / shanahan comparison is just stupid marty shot his load down his leg year after year, marty and shanahan are nothing alike marty just got tired of coming up short every year and when he finally had it in his hands he ends up fighting with the idiot GM for the chuggers and it pushed him over the edge and walked away.

Today is the first time I've ever wondered if Shanny needs to go. Not because of the defense. The defense is toast. We can adjust schemes, throw out some smoke and mirrors, but nothing a 3-year-old on a stick horse couldn't penetrate. The simple fact is we lack the talent to be effective on that side of the ball.

No, what worries me is that I'm not sure what Shanny's doing right now on offense. He finally has the personell there to do things he hasn't been able to in years--we should regularly be putting up 30--and yet he (or dinger) has been calling plays as though Plummer's still out there with his helmet on backwards. Wtf? Does he still think he needs to coddle Cutler? I say no, throw that boy into the game, put him in a position to make some real plays.

So it's going to be a long season. Not just because we're bad, but because we're worse than we should be given our talent.

But to try and maintain some perspective...What Shanny does have going for him is that he has high standards, he's an innovator, and he's one methodical mofo. He's the coach who two years ago had his team in the AFC title game with nothing but a decent D and Rod Smith on O. This is as close as Shanny gets to rebuilding. I've always thought this would be a 9-7 team. Now its seems more like7-9, which really isn't that much difference. And next year WILL be better.

So yes, I give him another year. Even two. Maybe three.

Nice post. I agree with almost everything you said, except I think this is a 6-10 team.

I don't remember the Broncos going through this much change in one season since Shannys been HC. That said, I think this is the Broncos first
real rebuilding year in Shannys tenure. Green QB, new DC, lots of new players on the field. Lots of changes on both sides. I didn't expect this kind of struggle though. But then again who did? Lots of us didn't expect the Broncos to do much this year, but how many thought we wouldn't be able to score points and defend the run?

No way I give him three years. He has next year to show lots of improvement(considering how we're doing so far I don't expect a playoff game just yet) and the following year to get into the playoffs. If he can do that then I will have no problem with him being HC for 3 years.
SHOW ME SOMETHING SHANNAHAN!

When I say three years, I'm assuming signifigant improvement every year. If we go 6-10 this year AND next year, yeah Shanny would be on real thin ice in my book, if not gone.

Who knows, though, what kind of agreement he and Bowlen have going. Is it lifelong? Unbreakable? Did they sign it in blood? If so, hopefully it will get us another superbowl or two.
