Let me start off by saying that I was really skeptical about all the hype this guy was getting.
I just finished watching the drives we had when Henry went down and Selvin Young was used exclusively on our 2nd TD drive (3rd Quarter). First off Selvin Young showed more vision in that one game than I saw from Mike and Tatum Bell last year. For a kid who hasn't played much and was limited in Texas, he has great vision. There were a couple of plays where he had to make a decision where to run and he made the right choice and hit the hole hard. You either have that kind of vision or it takes you years to learn in the same system. He just has it. Secondly, he's tough to bring down because he gets to top speed in a hurry. He doesn't have top end speed like a Portis or Tatum (see the reverse play) but what he does have, he gets to it in a hurry. And lastly, I love the way this kid moves through traffic. He doesn't look flustered making his way through multiple defenders and generally falls forward. If our defense hadn't folded like a house of cards then I really believe we would have pounded the Colts into submission in the 2nd half. He's no where near as strong as Henry but doesn't get tackled easily. He wasn't used much as a pass blocker so I'm not rating him here. But as a pure RB, I'm a believer. ![]() |

I totally agree with you on this point. He has looked awsome when given the chance. As far as speed goes ... I have to believe he is probly faster than M. Bell and T. Henry. Does anyone recall if was at the combine this past year. Im curious to see what he run/ran in the forthy?

I'm not sold one way or the other, but what first jumped to my mind when I started to think about it was the run about halfway through the Raiders game. That, in my opinion was the best play of that game. Like I said the jury is still out in my mind, but he definately has potential.

His football speed is what counts and in that department, he's fast enough. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings....php?pyid=8838 |

I'm with you fontaine, he is showing some signs of being a football player not just a rb. He runs like a bronco back is supposed to. There will be some great things come from this kid.

in hi role as a backup/change up, the guy's succeeding. is he a workhorse? who knows. but if the babymaker can't go, i'd have trepidation, given the Bolts' tendency to blitz at least one guy often.

Selvin Young is the Starter over Mike Anderson, Tatum Bell, mike Bell, and Droughns if he's here a couple of years sooner.

My thoughts, too!
I'd like to see if he can CONSISTANTLY do this throughout the season! Yes, I was impressed, but I was last year with Mike Bell, too! Haven't heard much from him this year. So, time will only tell! |

I totally disagree with this. Mike Bell was as a churner, a tough guy who didnt' have that natural vision even though he played a lot of college ball.
Shanahan even went out of his way and flat out benched Mike midway through the season to start Nash, citing how often Bell is missing cutback lanes and dancing too much in the backfield. No such problem with Selvin Young, so far. |

All I'm saying is that he's got the natural tools to do very well in our system. Apparently so do the coaches who elevated him to 2nd spot ahead of Bell.

I was impressed also, last week. But, I'm not jumping on a bandwagon just quite yet. Week four last year we were all singing M. Bell praises, too. I'm hopefull that his talent isn't just a temporary enthusiasm, but true talent that will continue to shine! That's what I want to see!

But if you go back to last years season, you'll find threads about Mike Bell not being as fast as Tatum but having "superior vision" and how well he fits the system. Go back a couple more years and see Rueben Droughns. Couple more and see Mike Anderson. Etc. All I'm saying is, Turner's so ****ing good, RB is the least of our concerns. |

CB Punter Kicker DE QB a couple of Oline positions WR and probably even TE are all ahead of RB at this pt if Henry can't start. |

People can cite the numbers all they want....I could care less about the fact that they've rushed for 1,800-2,000 yards as a team pretty much every year. They've been dominating between the 20s, but they haven't scared anyone inside the 10 yard line in ages. When was the last time the Broncos had 1st and goal and you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they could just pound it in and get the score? When you can say "today", then I'll say the running game is the least of my worries. |
