31st run stopping defense + 1st passing defense...I guess that equals out to 'middle of the pack'.

Yawn....as if the stupid power ranking mean anything.....here's CBS Sportline's....they have Denver at #13, and Oakland at #23.....chew on that.

18th according to footballoutsiders.com DVOA rankings. (Actually I think its DAVE) which to me is about an accurate assessment of the product on the field at this point in time.

OMG is that the most gay thing ever. Oakland in the hunt. The very words scream sarcasm. As Troy Aikman would say............GET REAL. What ever person or panel of persons who came up with the idea to add the chokeland faders to that list needs to be fired.........right now.

They're probably just looking ahead to the Raiders taking the AFCW lead during their bye week. LT gets healthy against the Bronco's horrid #31 run defense, Jags beat underdog KC, and Oakland leads the division. Now, is that testament to how much Oakland has improved, or to how much the other three AFCW teams suck? Bit of both maybe, eh?

You notice how "Middle of the Pack" encompassed all 2-2 teams but Oakland and "Needs Work" encompassed all 1-3 and 0-4 teams. Honestly, thats just lazy.

Considering Oakland has beaten Cleveland and Miami and has already lost to Denver I'd say it more has to do with the AFC West being easily the worse division in football. However, Oakland is definitely better then last year, which isn't saying a lot...

Daunte Culpepper is writing a remarkable comeback story.

Good, sweet, floating Christ.

The guy threw 12 passes all day and completed FIVE.

HE COMPLETED FIVE PASSES ALL DAY!

He ran a couple of balls into the endzone and completed five passes.

Can we hold of on the Greatest Comeback of All-Time crap for just a game or so?

We could do without the weak smack, but you have a point.

Denver will, to a good degree, get the rushing defense up to, well, top 20...hows that (..and I thought the run defense was 32...see, the improvement is on that way), but it may take several more games, so Tomlinson may, indeed, have his way.

The Chiefs actually think they have a chance, so they'll play above themselves for a time before crashing into the top ten draft selections.

San Diego is being Norvified, so, while the championship talent is obviously there, so is the coach that just won't let that happen if he has anything to say about it.

Oakland..well now, there's a team for ya.

More washed up QBs than a weekend flag football league, a head coach who still needs mommy to wipe, an offensive line that apparently has adopted the same policies that run our southern border and a RB/WR corp that defines mediocrity.

Oy, what a division. Whoever wins becomes the 2007 season speed bump for New England or Indy...your choice.

Good luck with that.

Meaningless or not....it still amazes me every time I see a power ranking that, when facing the issue of ranking two teams with identical records, it completely ignores the "head to head" results and chooses to list the team that actually lost to the other team higher than the actual winner.

Thats because Oak basically had us beat on our own field. People always underestimate the value of home field in the NFL.

If we're going to rank teams that way, then the first few SBs for the Pats should be taken away, because 2/3 to 3/4 of their victories those two years were by 3 pts or less. Imagine if all the teams that lost by a field goal or less tried to say that they "basically beat" the other team....

You type this every time...as if someone actually thinks someone wins anything form it. It is a message board...it is sports discussion. Just tuck this stupid straw man away some place and keep it there.

Thats why homefield is so important in the playoffs. They played good enough to get it and I believe snuck out with the lombardi. Titans would have beat them at home. Oakland?
