Tampa Bay Lightning enforcer Andre Roy has been suspended by the team for at least two games.

According to a report in the Tampa Bay Tribune, the club sent Roy home this morning in reaction to an incident in Thursday's 3-2 loss at Philadelphia.

During the game, Roy had to be restrained by a linesman then physically pulled to the bench by head coach John Tortorella after being enraged by the Flyers in-house staff for replaying Roy's second fight with Riley Cote on the jumbo screen. The Tribune reported that with each replay, the Flyers bench laughed at Cote's quick punch that sent Roy to the ice.

''After last night's game, I felt it would be best for the team and for Andre if he went back to Tampa and we separated him from the team for the next few days,'' general manager Jay Feaster said in a statement. ''I will meet with Andre on Monday and we will determine any subsequent course of action at that time.''

Roy will be out of the lineup tonight against New Jersey and Sunday in Columbus.

No. 5: Owen Nolan

C'mon, admit it. You thought he retired three years ago. After missing two full seasons, then spending another in Phoenix (formerly hockey's version of the Witness Protection Program), Nolan has re-emerged as a force in Calgary. He scores (15 goals), he hits, he fights and he's a major reason no one wants to face the Flames in the playoffs.

No. 4: Fletcher and his frozen five: The Toronto Maple Leafs are to hockey writers and broadcasters what George Bush is to late-night talk show hosts: pure comedy gold. The Leafs are more dysfunctional than the Spears sisters (plus you can laugh at them without feeling pangs of guilt for mocking teen pregnancy and chemical dependency!)

Let's recap: they brought out of retirement the GM who traded for Mats Sundin so he could trade away Mats Sundin. Of course, Cliff Fletcher couldn't trade Mats, or anyone else of value. I mean, why would any Leafs veteran want to go to a Cup contender if it meant missing out on another magical late run at ninth?

No. 3: Mike Ribeiro

When Dallas acquired Ribeiro from Montreal for Janne Niinimaa early last season, most described the deal as "one team's garbage for another's." It was hard to disagree. Well, the "garbage" Dallas got has 27 goals, is 10th in the NHL in points and has been rewarded with a $25-million contract. Niinimaa, by the way, has nine goals. In Switzerland.

No. 2: Habs/Bruins

I paired these two up because a top 11 list isn't quite as catchy. Besides, Montreal and Boston share the distinction of being my single two worst preseason predictions. I had the Canadiens finishing 12th, and the Bruins dead last. Oopsie. The Canadiens might just win the conference, and the Bruins seemed headed for a top-five seed until they gave up 19 goals in three games -- all losses -- this week. So I may still be right about them. Maybe it just took them 68 games to remember they are supposed to be bad.

No. 1: The Ottawa Senators -- Last 50 games

Congrats, boys. You are the most bizarre, befuddling story of the season. Since Game 19, Ottawa has the fifth-worst record in the NHL. Tampa, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Atlanta, Ottawa. These are your peers, fellas.

In Toronto, the belief is the Leafs' strong finish is ruining their chances of winning the Steven Stamkos Sweepstakes. Lately, it seems the Senators' strong start is the only thing that ruined their shot at Stamkos.

It's hard for me to imagine that we are in the bottom half. Perhaps it's the players that have missed the time. At one point, we had arguably our top 4 forwards out (Gagne, Richie, Lupul, and Briere). The 2nd list makes more sense. Although, we would probably be the highest when you take into account that Gagne only played only 20 games (give or take a few). His goal total would be alot higher had he been injured later.
Wow, only 16th overall. That just doesn't seem right.

These are guestimates the author states that but will say they have to be pretty close based on the lack of the league keeping any real accurate numbers for guys like us that care mirtle simply did his best.

I like his work. I just took the time to do the dirty work as far as the Flyers go. Based on all 4 "normal" lines and the top 6 D-Men, The number I came up with for MGL is 219. He may not have counted guys like Riley Cote and other "bottom" tier players but anyone who knows the Flyers, knows Cote is a big part of the way the Flyers try to get things done.
I just took the total number of team games played (69) and added the total up from each player that was under the 69 games. Again, I didn't take call up's into account. Just the 19 regulars.

Avs were without Sakic, Smyth and Stastny...with Leopold in and out of the line-up. Now Smyth, Svatos(out for the season and lead goal scorer), Foote, Salei and Forsberg is DTD...we feel your pain, as crazy as it sounds..if it weren't for Jose we wouldn't be where we are..if he keeps playing the way he is, we get our PP going and we can get healthy...watch out!!

I saw svatos in hershey many times. He's made of glass. Great goal scorer.

Alex the Great helps the Avs out tonight. Cripes what a phenomenal player he is. The Caps were flying tonight, and Kipper was brilliant.

The NHL has so many great young players right now it's silly.

I agree Pendejo. I actually enjoyed the cup with the lightning v. flames. I loved watching Vinny blow up and Iginla dominate. IMO that was one of the best cup series i ever watched.

NEW YORK/TORONTO (March 15, 2008) -- Anaheim Ducks defenseman Chris Pronger has been suspended for eight games, without pay, for acting carelessly and recklessly in an incident against the Vancouver Canucks in NHL Game #1062 on March 12.

The incident occurred after Pronger became entangled with Canucks forward Ryan Kesler, who had fallen to the ice.

"In attempting to free himself, Pronger carelessly and recklessly brought his foot down," said Colin Campbell, NHL Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations.

There was no injury to Kesler, and no penalty was assessed.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Pronger is considered a repeat offender. He will forfeit $609,756.08 in salary. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Pronger will be eligible to return Sunday, April 6, against the Phoenix Coyotes.
