Default Dumerville vs Merriman thread

Any Charger fans getting pissy over this, relax. Everyone knows Merriman is a great player (regardless of cheating and faggy dances). The purpose of this thread is to monitor how much of a steal acquiring Elvis in the fourth round was compared to the ESPN and self proclaimed greatest LB/pass rusher ever.

Merriman: 8 tackles, 2 sacks
Dumervil: 4 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 INT for 27 yards.

I loved how Merriman celebrated a sack on Brady when his team was down by 3 scores. When your team is down by that much, shut up and go back to the huddle.

When Elvis picked off that pass I was yelling at the screen, pitch it back, pitch it back.

So far I'd say he has been a steal. He'll probably get 10+ sacks this year.

Merriman is a freak....dumb sack dance or not. The next 10 years are going to suck facing him, but they're the 'Bolts, they will find a way to blow....

His freakishly long, gorilla arms reached up and snagged it.

I absolutely LOVE rooting for this guy. I scream "Elvis lives!" at the bar tv several times per game.

Actually, he tipped the ball up in the air and caught it as it was coming down. Great play.

It actually looked like he sniffed out a screen. Losman thought he could chuck it over shorty. Shorty laid down the law.

I just wish he could have gotten some better blocking after the pick so he could get it to the endzone. One of my favorite plays to ever see is when a big lineman (offense or defense) gets the ball and rumbles to the end zone.. That's a thing of beauty!

It will be very interesting to see how Graham matches up against Merriman in a couple weeks. It will be a slugfest...

Yeah, I liked that, too. Priorities are right in order.

It's like Todd Helton last night, celebrating after his walk-off home run. In the post-game interview, they mentioned the celebration (it was pretty spontaneous, if you haven't seen it). He simply said something to the effect of, "I've just never hit a home run that meant quite as much to my team as that. I've hit a lot of them; and sure, you run around the bases and smile. But what's the use of acting like a fool when the game doesn't mean as much?"

What a novel concept!

Dumervil was a good steal much like Shaun Phillips was a great steal in the draft.

Both players are fun to watch.

My biggest concern about this season was the defense and Ted Cottrell. That braniac keeps dropping Merriman into coverage too much. I don't know if he's trying to get too cute with the defense or what but the smart coordinator maximizes the talent of their players and that would be to let Merriman rush the quarterback.

agreed, especially considering he is basically a light defensive end in your system

Seriously. Merriman was dominating Nick Kaczur and Matt Light just about every time that his number was called, so why wasn't Cottrell blitzing him every down? It's obvious that our coverage schemes are garbage once again, so Teddy needs to compensate and start blitzing every down. Jam the receivers at the line. We have good personel for that. We don't have good personel for cover 3 or any of these other dumbass coverages that he's trying to run. I hope he figures that out. Wade forgot about it a few times last year, too. Also, where were the nickle blitzes this week? I was loving those against Chicago.
