Denver’s defense prepares for both Oakland quarterbacks
ENGLEWOOD - There isn’t much concern among the Denver Broncos about who will start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
Josh McCown didn’t practice Wednesday but practiced in full Thursday, according to the team’s report. McCown started last week, but is on the injury report with a foot injury. If he can’t play, Daunte Culpepper would start.
The Broncos admitted they have to spend a little extra time studying two quarterbacks, but cornerback Dre Bly said they are similar. Both are mobile and dangerous on bootleg plays.
“It doesn’t matter,” Bly said. “It’s not going to change what we do, not to take anything away from Josh or Daunte.”
“You study both of them and you’re ready for whoever they throw at you,” safety John Lynch said.
Receiver Rod Smith said he was grateful to be named a captain this week. Denver voted center Tom Nalen, quarterback Jay Cutler, Lynch and cornerback Champ Bailey as captains last week. The captains told Broncos coach Mike Shanahan that Smith, who is out for at least the first five games of the season on the physically unable to perform list, should be included as well.
“I think it was a great gesture,” Smith said. “The thing I appreciate is it comes from the players.”
Smith, who is recovering from offseason hip surgery, said he had no updates on his health or when he might return.
Former Broncos defensive tackle Gerard Warren came off the bench for the Raiders last week.
Denver traded Warren to Oakland last month for a 2008 fifth-round pick. Warren Sapp, who openly questioned Warren’s ability to make the Raiders after the trade, has changed his tune.
“He’s right in the mix, right in the fold with us inside and doing real well for us,” Sapp said.

I'll miss Randy Moss whining that the incompetent Raiders quarterbacks can't/won't get the ball to him...

Gotta watch for Curry. I read somewhere he has 43 catches in his previous four games.
* Yahoo shows 35 catches. Pick him up in your FFL.
