Default D played well, O can't finish, special teams sucked

That's pretty much how I saw the game.

The D played well for all but one series, which was the series where the Bills ran all over them for their only offensive score. I thought it was over for the D after they gave up a 3rd and long run for a first down, and a 3rd and long run for a TD. That was embarrassing. It looked like the D had worn down and the Bills would just run on them for the rest of the game. But I was very happy to see the D bounce right back and stuff the Bills for the rest of the game. So the D stops the Bills for all but one drive, only give up one score, limits the Bills to only 184 yards of O, and only 72 passing yards. That's good defense.

The O was frustrating me. They moved the ball very well, racking up 470 yards. How can a team have a QB throw for over 300 yards, have a RB go for 140, only turn the ball over once, and only have 15 points on the board? That makes no sense. By my count the O drove into scoring position six times but only scored 1 TD. That's not acceptible. They couldn't finish drives. If they did this game wouldn't have been close.

I'm sure it's been stated here a number of times over the past day. Special teams sucked again. I read some training camp puff piece saying that special teams would be better. That was a lie. The Bills had more return yards than offensive yards.

Even with my frustrations, I'm still feeling good about the win. The way I see it a team should look good in a win at home, but on the road just get out of there with a win. That's pretty much what the Broncos did. They just got it done. It wasn't pretty, but they got the win. If they had to go through all that to get a win over the Bills at Mile High, I'd be really worried about their chances this season. If they have to struggle like that every road game, I'll start to worry.

Next week, at home against the Raiders, they better have that game wrapped up by the 3rd quarter. They better not just get by like they did against the Bills. A 13-3 score, like last year at home against the Raiders, isn't going to cut it. This team needs to build some confidence, and know that they can blow teams out.

I was joking in another thread that in order for the Broncos to have a 30 point offense Jay Cutler would have to throw for 600 yards and Travis Henry would have to run for 300 years in a game.

This team does not have enough closing power to shut this game down. There is blood in the water and the Raiders game is going to feel like a playoff game. They are going to have to slug this one out for real. Bills are NOTHING compared to the Raiders. The Raiders don't know they suck....yet.

The funny thing is as bad as Special teams sucked THEY are the ones that won the game. As stout at the defense was the were only playing the Bluffalo Bills. As much as the O couldn't finish anything they made up for the turnovers the D didn't deliver and the yardage that Special Teams kept giving away by working on the clock.

This team has a long long long uphill climb this season. As usual Shanahan makes it always worthwhile to watch. Great job Broncos!

I don't know man, that vaunted Raiders defense looked really good against that offensive gargantuan known as the Detroit Lions

We're much closer to really good than to bad or even average. When you hang 470 yards on someone, a 300 passing effort, 100 yard receiver and 100+ yard rusher, but don't punch it in, that's largely on kinks in your own offense than their defense stopping you. Basically it means we're a few mistakes away from being explosive.

Well, until we knock off SD and Indy in the next 3 weeks we will have to hear about how its a 3 team race in the AFC and the Donks are not invited.

However, after we kick both their asses it will still be a 3 team race and the donks still wont be invited because it will be an aberration that we won.

The O will work itself out and close out more drives. But, will the special teams get it together? Every aspect save for the the last second rush onto the feild circus was horrible. Bad coverage, sorry blocking, the bills gunners quickly broke through the double teams on every punt. Hixon was very suspect as well, probably opening day jitters.

I think we can handle SD. Indy and NE, this early in the season, I'm not sure about. Get us into the playoffs healthy, with a season under these kids' belts, however, and anything is possible.

BTW, the NFL really needs to reseed for the playoffs, with no conference requirements. The NFC playoffs are going to be horrific.

You know what I saw? I saw a fairly rusty team do what it had to to win the game. We pulled it together when it mattered most and came away with a W in the opener for the first time in 3 years.

This team WILL get better and start to gel more, if that game a couple years back against the Dolphins was a sign of all we were capable of we would have gone 0-16. Just chill and have faith in the coaching staff.

To Alec's defense, he was optimistic during the preseason while many of you fools were ready to cancel the season.

Agreed. The Broncos showed that they have the pieces to be an explosive team, now it's just putting it all together. They are not that far off. Once they work out the kinks and can finish drives, it's going to be very hard to stop them.
