Default Rumor: Pats' Richard Seymour may miss entire season

Already on the PUP, there is some speculation that he MAY miss the entire year.

He will be listed as probably with a lower to middle body injury. Then on Friday he will be listed as doubful with an upper body injury. Come sunday he will be inactive with a case of the "Flu"

I actually lovehow they screw with the injury report every year.

I remember the last time they travelled to Mile High and he was hurt. They listed him as questionable.......and he didn't even make the flight out to Denver! They pretty much refuse to say the player is out even though there is no chance of them playing.

Well, he HAS to miss 6 weeks, cause he's on the PUP list.

I heard again this morning on WEEI radio in Boston....that the speculation is definitely there that he could miss the entire season.

I think the team knew that Seymour was going to be missing significant time this season, if not the whole season, early this summer. This is from the Boston Herald in July:

Patriots re-signed DE Jarvis Green to a five-year contract extension.

The deal is worth between $12-18 million depending on incentives, including a $3.5 million signing bonus. Green has improved every NFL season, peaking during the playoffs the last two years.

Not exactly the type of deal you give a backup, but clearly a bargain for a guy who is on the rise and may not know he's going to be taking on a starting role for a perennial pro-bowler. Had Jarvis known what the team knew, he could easily have demanded more money.

New England could be the least classy organization in the entire league, headed up by the biggest piece of crap head coach in pro sports.

That's actually a pretty standard deal for a decent 3rd defensive end. You can't afford to be weak up front in a 3-4 D, especially the Pats who are becoming somewhat LB deficient. Jarvis Green isn't half bad either.

Standard deal for most teams, perhaps. But unheard of for the Pats, who don't tend to reward their own starters before their contracts are up....much less rotational backup guys.

Well, the Pats understand that a sound defense starts with winning the LOS. They just do not think the skill positions are as important as other teams value them.

That's exactly it. Somebody like Jarvis Green is easily worth what they pay him, and he's making a lot less than both Ty Warren and Richard Seymour are. The Patsies aren't cheap, they are just smarter with their money.

Until this last offseason when they realized the Reche Caldwell wasn't going to hack it. Judging by the mass signings they've had, I'd venture to say that they're coming around to the skill positions lately.

They spent more extending Ty Warren and signing A Thomas than they did on all those receivers.
