Orchard Park, N.Y. - Buffalo Bills linebacker Keith Ellison is out indefinitely because of a sprained ankle, and Coy Wire will replace him when Buffalo opens the season Sunday against the visiting Broncos.
"It's not good. It's going to be awhile," Bills coach Dick Jauron said Sunday of Ellison's injury and recovery. Ellison was hurt in the second quarter of Buffalo's preseason finale, a 16-13 win at Detroit on Thursday. He did not attend practice Sunday, but was walking on crutches and wearing a protective boot on his right foot. The Bills were counting on the second-year player to take over the weakside spot in a revamped linebacking corps that lost two veterans starters - Takeo Spikes and London Fletcher. http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_6788391 |

I posted this on the other thread. Cory Wire, a converted 220 pound safety with 5 starts in the last 4 years and 13 tackles last season will be starting at WLB in his place. For a defense already undersized in the line and starting a rookie LB in Posluszny to add a converted safety to their lineup the week of the regular season is a signifcant blow. Expect a heavy dose of Travis Henry on that side of the field.

Broncos will for sure give Bills a heavy dose of 2 TE sets to take advantage of the weakside. You may even see a Graham/Alexander set to really try and get more blockers then Bills can handle.

Well, now our linebackers might at least compare to Buffalo's pile of nothing.

okay - why is a starting LB playing in the 2nd quarter of the preseason finale? makes no sense at all.

I thought the same thing when I read it, RMT. Fisher played his starters into the 3rd down in Tenn though so apparently some coaches are just trying to buck the system.

sure seems to have backfired for Buffalo ... why the risk? give the majority of playing time to guys trying to make the team - the more they play, the better the chance they have to show their stuff.

Probably a big reason Keith was getting more playing time in the preseason finale was the fact that he had a poor preseason overall. Practiced well....but was disappearing during the games until the finale when he stepped it up prior the the injury...it was early in the quarter, anyway

Some people around here were going nuts because the Broncos defensive starters got the final preseason game off. This is the exact reason why those guys should be rested.
