Wow. Big news. In my opinion, the Jaguars are doing the wrong thing.

He's had something ridiculous like 4 O-coordinators in 4 years. I dunno, he has an absolute cannon of an arm and shows flashes. Sure, he's a statue and has a long release, but until last year the Jaguars never had any semblence of an o-line to give him time. Also, Garrard is a very, very average QB.

Jags should have kept Brunell and just given him some more weapons to work w/ in old age IMO.

Well, obviously not since he is surplanting Leftwich. Evidently they see something in Garrad that they dont in Leftwich.

ESPNews' Chris Mortensen reports that Byron Leftwich will be released or traded before the season.

It's amazing how poorly the Jaguars have handled their quarterback quandry the last two years. If Garrard had such a good shot, why waste first-team snaps on Leftwich all offseason? At least they finally made a choice. Leftwich's $5 million base salary and an uneven preseason were the deciding factors here. QB-hungry teams like Minnesota, Oakland, Kansas City, and Atlanta especially could show interest. 12-team redraft fantasy owners can drop Leftwich, although deep leaguers should wait to see where he goes.

David Garrard-QB-Jaguars Aug. 31 - 4:41 pm et

ESPNews reports David Garrard will be the Jaguars' starting QB this season, instead of Byron Leftwich.

Garrard is considerably cheaper, outplayed Leftwich in the preseason, and is more durable. This is a surprise given that Leftwich was with the first unit throughout training camp, but makes sense in the end. Leftwich will now likely be traded or released. Quinn Gray will likely stick as Garrard's backup. Because of Garrard's running ability, he's a solid late QB2 choice.

Hes a legend down in that Jacksonville area. We built a o-line and provided weapons for some old geezer named Elway and he had a storybook ending.

Jags should have done the same for Brunell.

Time will tell i guess. When ive seen Garrad fill in for Byron he does a better job of passing and running from the pocket. Maybe all Byron needs is a change of scenery but from what ive seen he just doesnt have it. Jeff George had a strong arm too but never panned out. Looks can be deceiving.

The Bucs collect QB's. So I can see Chucky calling Left for a tryout.

I was thinking the same thing. That would be a smart move for them to get a solid veteran in case Joey Harrington plays like, uh, Joey Harrington.

I had a feeling this was coming. In one of my drafts last week we had to draft and retain 3 QB's (Why I dunno) and for my third QB I nabbed Garrard. I mentioned to the guy who took Leftwich that it would not surprise me at all if the Jags decide to go with Garrard. I think Garrard is the better of the two myself.

The Jags would agree with you as it seems.

What's funny is that in our OM mock draft where each person has a team I got the Jags and the first thing I wanted to do was trade Byron for a pick and then try and draft a QB. We weren't allowed to trade players, so they shot that down, but it's weird that they're doing what I thought they needed to do. Anyone that has watched Byron knows he's like a a poor man's Drew Bledsoe. If he didn't keep getting injured he'd be ok, but to have someone so immobile and slow prone to injury just shows this was the right choice for the Jags.

I really don't want to see him in KC. He's not quick at all but his arm scares the hell out of me.
