No structural damage found in Henry's left knee
By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: August 19, 2007, 3:48 PM ET Comment The Denver Broncos appear to have dodged a potentially serious setback, with a Sunday examination of starting tailback Travis Henry's left knee indicating no significant structural damage. Henry Henry left Saturday night's preseason game at Dallas in the second quarter with the knee injury. Coach Mike Shanahan said after the game that the early assessment was that Henry suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament, and a subsequent MRI exam verified that. It is not known how long Henry, who is in his first season with the Broncos, will be sidelined. But the Broncos, who have had a different leading rusher in each of the past four seasons, and in five of the last six years, likely will err on the side of caution. The Broncos feel that Henry will register big numbers running behind a blocking scheme that really fits his skills-set well. In two preseason games, playing sparingly, Henry has carried 15 times for 52 yards, and has demonstrated his ability to adapt to the zone-blocking system that Denver has employed for years. Henry is a one-cut runner and, with more latitude in choosing his holes, some feel he will post a career-best year in 2007. His current career best came in 2002, when he rushed for 1,438 yards while playing for the Buffalo Bills. Henry, 28, signed a five-year contract with the Broncos in early March, just days after the Tennessee Titans released him for salary cap considerations and to avoid paying him an $8.3 million roster bonus. The deal in Denver included $12 million in guarantees. At the time of the signing, it was widely believed that Henry would become the latest beneficiary of a running game design that systematically churns out 1,000-yard rushers. That belief was only fortified in minicamps and training camp. During the 12-year stewardship of Shanahan, the Broncos ranked in the top 10 in rushing offense leaguewide in all but one season. That includes rating in the top five on nine occasions. The Broncos were eighth in the NFL in rushing offense in 2006, their lowest finish since 2001. Henry resurrected his career in 2006 by winning the Titans' starting tailback job early in the season, then posting his third 1,000-yard rushing year. He carried 270 times for 1,211 yards and seven touchdowns in 2006, and notched six 100-yard outings. The former University of Tennessee standout spent the first four years of his career with the Bills before being traded to the Titans in 2005. In 78 games, including 62 starts, Henry has carried 1,321 times for 5,395 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also has 134 receptions for 886 yards and two scores. Good news!
I must say though, I'm still concerned with the conditioning of our players. Could it be that they're overworked in the offseason conditioning program? |

What does no "significant' structural damage...mean?

Didn't we know it was just a strain yesterday? I mean he was walking around on it during the game after they took him out. Not saying I'm not glad it's been confirmed by science, but I guess I thought we already knew this.

I think we pretty much did but you never know until the MRI tells the whole story. There have been some athletes to continue playing on Torn ACLs and Broken Tibulas etc.

I still remember Terrell Davis walking around on the sideline after he tore his ACL. I don't believe anything until the tests are back.

I wouldn't exactly call this "OK". "Sprained" ligaments mean they are still intact but can be anything from stretched to partially torn. Hopefully, he just misses a month.

Thank goodness. Now we just have to convince him to line up on the d-line.

It's just a siigh of relief knowing that it's not bad. So know they can focus on getting healed and bringing in a DE an OL to the mix. |

Good to hear!
Also agree that he should be shelved until week 1. No need to put him in the games until then. His roster spot is assured and the coaches know what he can do |

And even if he cant go, we would still have a decent run game with Bell, Sapp and Young.

I would say with both his age and previous knee history, I believe he had an injury back in his rookie year, with age a injury I'm sure there wear and tear on the knee that may show up on an MRI.
But nothing requiring surgery. |

This is really sad. The one opitimistic thread on the entire first page isn't even close to 2 pages, while the "TEH BRAWNKOS SUK! WERE DOOOMED!!" threads have tons of pages. Pathetic.

I have come to expect that here. It seems many posters are very cynical and pessimistic. So the minute the team hits a snag they become chicken little. It gets very old. Then you have Bob who just gets to troll away without any recourse what so ever.

Oh, I've come to expect it too. But today it's just retarded. I don't think I've ever seen it this bad.

Yeah ... good article by Pasquarelli though, even if there's very little new info. He's usually pretty good, al least at summing up the obvious.

Good to hear that it's not season ending or anything serious as that.
I didn't get to watch the game yesterday (idiot guy in the bar tried to tell me that the Broncos were not playing the Cowboys yesterday...looked at me like I was a stupid chick that didn't know what I was talking about...pissed me off!!) But, I got a message telling me he went down and I went into the "sky is falling" mode. Is it just me or does it seem like there are an awful lot of injuries accross the league this preseason? |
