Snap Judgments Preseason observations on Cutler, VY, Jets and more Posted: Tuesday August 14, 2007 3:30PM; Updated: Tuesday August 14, 2007 3:56PM Jay Cutler started five games for the Broncos last year and compiled an 88.5 passer rating. • Week 1 Preseason's top efforts Musings, observations and the occasional insight as we (thankfully) put Week 1 of the preseason in the rear-view mirror .... • Write it down and remind me if I'm wrong at the end of the year: Denver's Jay Cutler will out-perform both Vince Young and Matt Leinart this year in the competition between Class of '06 quarterbacks; San Francisco's Alex Smith will handily out-gun Jason Campbell among Class of '05 passers; and San Diego's Philip Rivers will put together the best season among Class of '04 members Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, J.P. Losman and Matt Schaub. I also like Peyton Manning in Indy over Ryan Leaf. • It took all of about two carries Monday night to see Travis Henry and the Broncos' running game are at the start of what could be a beautiful friendship. Henry hits a hole hard, and he's perfect for the style of running that always seems to be Denver's calling card. Henry had 27 yards and a touchdown on five rushes against the 49ers, and it's not out of the question that he could top his career-best season of 2002, when he ran for 1,438 yards and 13 touchdowns with Buffalo. And that's with the Broncos also finding plenty of carries for Mike Bell, who churned for a team-best 51 yards on 10 runs against the 49ers. • Not to make too much of Vince Young's getting homesick for his own bed at training camp, but it's not the sort of thing that makes me think he gets it entirely. It leaves me with a little question about his maturity level, and whether he thinks he has already arrived as an NFL quarterback, allowing him to make up a few of his own rules. The truth is, Young had some spectacular moments last season and helped the Titans win some games they probably shouldn't have won. But he hurt Tennessee at times, too, and that seems to have been largely glossed over. You just wonder if he has a Year 2 wake-up call of sorts coming • The most significant injury in Week 1 of the preseason? Bengals second-round pick Kenny Irons is out for the season with a knee injury suffered in the loss to Detroit, and now Cincinnati's plan to take some of the running load from the shoulders of the always heavily used Rudi Johnson may be off the board. The Bengals other options are Kenny Watson and Quincy Wilson, and both are question marks as a full-fledged No. 2 back. Anyone in Cincy still have Corey Dillon's number laying around? Just kidding. I can't see Marvin Lewis making that call and can't see Dillon picking up the phone. -more here... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...4/snaps/1.html |

But, but Croyle had a higher completion rating in his first preseason game! Hands down he is better! Never mind no TD and and INT.
I think Cutler has a better year than Leinart because he has a better supporting cast and he is a better QB. Vince Young, that could go either way. Vince definately showed some stuff and I think they both will help their team. I loved his Payton Manning over Ryan Leaf remark! I also think Rivers will way outshine his class. |

Cutler is the man, but I think we may be a little thin on pass protection. He better be ready to scramble.

I'm gonna wait and judge him when the whole Offense is together by about the Buffalo game. There were a couple of players missing on the Oline in the San Fran game, and the timing did not do well for pass protection. There were only two passing attempts by Cutler. However, Henry is a strong runner and he doesn't need much of a hole to go.....
I refuse to get too high or too critical right after the first freaking exhibition game..... |

I agree 100% on that. My problem is Im might be one of a few here that wanted Matt over Jay. I think Jay does some very good things and I love what I see from him. Regardless Leinart will do good things in the NFL and he will be a winnner.
