Broncos face former first-round pick Lelie, 49ers
By FRANK SCHWAB THE GAZETTE Nearly a year has passed since the Denver Broncos sent holdout receiver Ashley Lelie to Atlanta in a three-way trade that also involved Washington. Lelie became a free agent after the season and signed with the San Francisco 49ers, who host the Broncos tonight in a preseason game. This is how the trade turned out: What the Broncos got Denver devised a complicated formula in which it could have swapped first-round picks with Washington in April and moved up as many as 11 spots in the first round. But the Redskins had a miserable season and the difference between Denver’s pick and Washington’s pick was too great. So Denver received a third-round pick (70th) this year and a fourth-round pick in 2008 for Lelie. With the third-round pick, the Broncos chose offensive tackle Ryan Harris. The team isn’t counting on Harris, who has missed the past couple of practices because of a back injury, to play much this year. What the Falcons and Redskins got Atlanta got Lelie, who started 10 of the 15 games he played but produced little. Lelie had 28 catches, 430 yards and one touchdown. Washington, which gave up two draft picks to get running back T.J. Duckett, received even less. Duckett played in 10 games and had 132 rushing yards on 38 carries. Duckett signed with the Lions in the offseason. Broncos assessment Lelie was the team’s first-round pick in 2002 and had 1,084 receiving yards in 2004. But he never developed into a star and became upset last year that he wouldn’t be the No. 1 receiver. General manager Ted Sundquist said he wanted to see Lelie continue to develop. “Whenever you’re trading away one of your first-rounders, it’s a disappointment,” Sundquist said. “I thought Ashley was a very productive guy here and I wish he had shown some more patience.” Lelie held out and had only one year left on his contract so the Broncos were happy to get something of value for him. “I felt like, for the position we were in and the amount of time that was left on Ashley’s contract, I thought we got a pretty good deal,” Sundquist said. Lelie’s situation Lelie went to San Francisco but hasn’t made an immediate impact. He is listed as third string on the 49ers’ depth chart after dealing with a quadriceps injury most of the offseason. “I just want to establish myself on the team during this camp,” Lelie told the team’s Web site. “The first part is getting a spot, and then you go from there.” Lelie did win a battle over his option bonus. The Broncos tried to recoup a portion of his signing bonus and option bonus after he held out. Denver received some of his signing bonus and collected money from fines incurred during the holdout, but an arbitrator ruled Lelie didn’t have to give up a prorated part of his option bonus, so Lelie saved $220,000. This year, many draft picks’ agents wanted option bonuses included in their contracts. “That hurt the Broncos and it hurt the whole league,” Sundquist said. “I don’t agree with the ruling.” http://www.gazette.com/sports/lelie_...ncos_pick.html |

Is this about the time I say I'd like to see Lelie's legs broke and then everyone says how horrible it is that I would say that. Then people say what a sad little man I am because I enjoy football laden brutality and hope for pain and humilation upon that little wuss. Ya Ya Ya I know most of you just want a good clean game where no one gets injured but you can't tell me that deep down inside, where your dark side lurks, that you wouldn't love to see lelie hit so hard his ears bleed. GET ER DONE!!!!!!!!
