Eric Parker, WR (SD.) Parker attended Chargers' practice on Wednesday and appeared to be in good spirits, despite being out for up to 10 weeks due to surgery on his right big toe, according to the North County Times. Parker injured the toe during a minicamp in June. Parker, entering his sixth NFL season, is best-known for his double-muff while trying to field a punt in San Diego's 24-21 home playoff loss to New England. He caught 48 passes for 659 yards and no touchdowns last season. He has 152 receptions over the past three seasons. This is going to hurt their offense. |

Man, they went from 1 mediocore receiver and a bunch of crap to 0 mediocore receivers and a bunch of crap. Are LT and Gates both going to have 100+ receptions this year?

Their recievers aren't a big part of their offense anyway. We have a "scrub" reciever or two that we can trade. I'm sure whoever we sent them would be good for at least 48 and 659.

Old news. The Chargers are really counting on Malcom Floyd, Vincent Jackson, and Craig Davis to take a big step forward this year. 3rd year, 2nd year, and 1st year players. Our team is so damn young!!! Legedu Naanee will probably contribute some too. Another 1st year guy. Fortunately Eric Parker should be back and close to 100% by the playoffs to offer some experience, even if his experience in the playoffs last year was dismal.

The loss of Parker concerns me. But the other guys have been stepping up. Davis has looked great in training camp (just don't run any end arounds with him just yet) and Floyd and Jackson have looked improved as well.
I think the Chargers have a very interesting WR corps despite being relative nobodys. Parker is the hard working, underestimated possession receiver. Not physically gifted but runs great routes and is very reliable on 3rd downs. Davis is the burner and is already being praised heavily on his ability to get separation. Jackson and Floyd are kind of in between. They have great size and height and can stretch a defense on occasion but are also decent possession receivers. Naanee has already shown flashes that he could be another Gates-like gem in the rough. Lots of different skill sets for Norv to work with. The young receivers are really going to have to step it up though. |

While I'm not entirely sold on Vincent Jackson yet, I really like Malcom Floyd and like everybody else I'm really excited about Craig Davis. My gut feeling is that losing Eric Parker is going to hurt us, but in the long run it will be good to give the other receivers more time on the field since they all have higher ceilings. |

The problem with that is that this isn't intramurals. Giving the "other receivers more time on the field" often comes at a price in the win/loss column.

San Diego's WR corps wasn't great last year either. Not defending them but they have the best TE and the best player in the NFL. I don't think this will hurt them as much as we could hope. |

The December/Jan Rivers that looked lost out there, or the accurate guy from the early part of season. If he cannot get WR's to bail him out it could be a long year for Norv and crew. |

Keep in mind we beat both Seattle and KC (2 playoff teams) even when Rivers had no receivers and was playing like crap.
