Default I-35 Bridge in Minneapolis Collapses Over Mississippi River

During rush hour they say. Looks like at least a 1/2 mile span collapsed.
Looks pretty bad!

Bridge falls into Mississippi River

MINNEAPOLIS - A four-lane interstate bridge spanning the Mississippi River collapsed during evening rush hour Wednesday, sending vehicles and tons of concrete crashing into the water.

This video frame grab taken from KMSP television shows a burning tractor trailor at the scene of a freeway bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007. The entire span of the 35W bridge collapsed about 6:05 p.m. where the freeway crosses the river near University Avenue. (AP Photo/KMSP-TV)

The entire span of the Interstate 35W bridge collapsed about 6:05 p.m. A tractor-trailer caught fire, and flame and black smoke billowed into the sky.

Local television stations captured video of injured people being carried up the riverbank. There was no official word on injuries, but dozens of rescue vehicles were there. Divers were also in the water.

Some people were stranded on parts of the bridge that aren't completely in the water.

That's tough. Their DOT has some questions to answer. As well as the company they probably conttract to inspect bridges and overpasses.

I'm just happy to know that my tax dollars are being sent to Iraq where we can help them build their infrastructure.
