Default Lost an old friend.

Friday was a sad day. I was just getting ready to head off to work and was getting ready to go trough the ritual of giving the dogs their morning treats and fresh water. My Shepherd/ Rot mix was barking at me through the sliding glass door and I also heard some strange moans. I went out back to find my old Husky breathing his last few breaths. He had been with us for 14 years and will truly be missed.
Today, on the other hand, was a happy day. We adopted a pup from the Colorado Puppy Rescue. We had to do it because our Shepherd/Rot gets anxiety attacks if left alone for too long and proceeds to eat things (any kind of thing. We're talking mature bushes, grill parts, bowls....etc.)
Got the cutest little Female Shepherd mix. 7-1/2 weeks old. I"ll post some pix once I transfer them.

Losing a dog that has been loyal for so many years is like losing a big part of yourself. At least he went surrounded with his favorite people/dog. Good luck with the puppy!

I love old Huskey's. When they get a little older and melow out, the are the greatest dogs. We has one that lived to 15. The first 5 or 6 years he was a real handful, after he melowed a little he was sooo great with kids. I miss that dog.

Puppies are great too.

Thanks for the sentiments. But to be honest, Bear was very old for a dog his size. Not only were we, but the Vet was also surprised he lived as long as he did.
Now, the new addition, Roxy, is a handful. She is already high on the list of pests, for my Shepherd/ Rotty mix. She seems to think he's her Pop, and follows him everywhere. Not a minutes rest. He keeps looking at me with that "WTF" look. Little does Brutus realize he was also a pest to Bear when he was a pup.
We adopted her yesterday at noon, and she's already partially housebroken. Not bad for a 7-1/2 week old pup. I haven't quite figured out what she's mixed with, but her predominant features are definately German Shepherd. If her 1st day behaviors and learning ability are a good "measuring stick", she'll be one intelligent dog.
The only problem I have is the Baby syndrome of having to "deal" with her every couple of hours throughout the night.

I feel your pain man. I recently lost one of my younger dogs to a hit and run. 14 years is an incredible life for a dog though. I adopted a dog right off the bat also and it's helped us deal with the loss. Glad you were able to find a dog so quickly also. Good luck.

Condolences, amigo.

I'm a cat person myself, but I know what it's like to lose a beloved pet.
