I dont know if this is credible, saw a thread on the team site talking about some guy named Reno Nataro, who was apparently interviewed on 950 AM, with these tidbits on the Broncos...
- Brandon Stokley is coming off his injury very well - Rod Smith and Mike Bell are both on the bubble for making the TEAM - If Rod doesn't make the team, he'll retire(Right choice) - Cecil Sapp is playing very well - Stephen Alexander is busting his ass trying to stay on this team - Eddie Moore is the starting SLB as of now Here is the link to that thread: http://forums.denverbroncos.com/showthread.php?t=97246 The first post in the thread has the link to the podcast, I guess. How could Rod be on the bubble if he hasnt even been able to show his stuff yet? That is pretty interesting about Bell though, I would think he'd be sewn up at No. 2 but maybe Cecil is making a run as it says.

Mike Bell being on the bubble is surprising...Rod not so much. However, knowing that he's like that is crushing.
I'm glad about Eddie Moore. |

That makes no sense. Mike Bell should be our #2. And even if the coaching staff doesn't think so, he is certainly good enough to at least make the team.

The fact that our OLB battle is between Moore and Holdman is terrible, but I'm glad Moore is winning it. |

In a way, it could be good news. It would mean Sapp and the Rookies have some serious talent. Of course, TC hasn't started yet, so how would anyone really know who's going to start where?

I'm not sure who this Reno guy is, but I seriously doubt any Mike Shanahan employee would have the rock-head foolishness to even discuss Rod's chances of "making the team" while he's still hurt.
We all know it's a tough comeback at his age, but that doesn't mean anybody in a position of trust at Dove Valley would talk in such pedestrian terms about the Broncos all-time receptions and touchdowns leader. They didn't do it with Jerry Rice two years ago, why would they now? . |

Who knew crap about Mike Bell before training camp last year? Mike was an animal when the competition started. Denver is his dream. I bet he will crack some skulls and go down swinging before he lets go of the #2 spot.
I want what's best for the team, but Cecil has to prove he is illusive enough to get it done for our team. He had big runs last year because they were unexpected. I just don't know if he will pop it to the hole quite as quickly or decisively as Bell. That being said, I really like Cecil. No one on our team can cut as well as Mike Bell. If he has been working on his strength, endurance, and blocking in the offseason he should be in good shape. I think our coaches just like screwing with him because it gets him pissed off. This will definitely make my preseason game (in Dallas) a lot more interesting with the annual Denver tailback battle. I am also pretty interested to see our #2 offense out there a while. I think Patrick Ramsey throwing to Kircus / Hixon could be pretty entertaining. |

I question this information and the source. I have to think it's entirely too early to make those calls. Don't these types of questions come around during training camp?
And, I'd agree with BroncoBuff. I don't think Shanahan would even come close to allowing that type of information come out prior to training camp if it really were the case. |

Bell showed enough last year to be trade bait, so one would think that any talk of him being cut wouldn't come from the Broncos. |

It looks like someone like at the recent OTA were Sapp was running ahead of Bell and made an assumption. I would be more concern with Sapp chance of making the team then Bell's.

If Brandon Stokley looks alright, then our WR group becomes relatively deep.
Walker Smith Marshall Stokley That's a legit 4 deep. Of course it depends on the status of all 3 players other than Walk, but the potential is there for a nice group. |

I'm not surprised about Sapp. I think he will be great for us, not just good. I think Mike Bell and Rod could both still make the team, though. The thing about Rod and older vets is that if they can't start, then it's hard to make it as a backup because they usually aren't playing special teams and that's how the scrubs try and land a roster spot. Don't count Rod out, though. We all know better than to do that. Stokely being ahead of schedule is consistent with what everyone else is saying, so no surprises there. |

950 always has a "guest" from one of the sports houses in Nevada to talk about the "inside stuff". I don't know of that is who this guy was, but it wouldn't surprise me.
In my opinion, the TC has to start before the starting lineups are made out, and the RB position has got a Young, Hall and someone else whose name escapes me right now. I don't think there will be a shortage of candidates, do you? |

I doubt those rumors are true, but I don't care... I'm just glad we're finally hearing things about the team, about who could make the squad, who could be the starters, etc. Football season is almost here.

SO now Reno is the voice of the Denver Bronco's? yeah right. Mike Bell on the bubble is like saying Jay Cutler is fighting for the starting job. Total BS.

Yup. Socal, great find buddy as any info is fun to read. I doubt the credibility of any of this though.
At worst, Rod Smith will be put on PuP or IR a la what NY did with Martin last year. There is not way they cut him outright. They'll find a way to keep him around this year. As for Mike Bell... everybody was talking about Ron Dayne being the next 1000 yd back this time last year. A month and a half later, he was cut. Bell has been in this offense and produced. I don't think Shanahan is counting him out already. One thing I would consider on the HB front is this: We went out and spent money on a very good TE so we could pair him with Alexander and Scheff. We will be running a lot of ACE next year which mostly is one back. I wouldn't be surprised to see us shorten our bench at HB by plugging in a guy like Sapp who can play either HB or FB. Right now there are three guys who I think have a roster spot locked up in the backfield... 1. Henry 2. Sapp 3. Paul Smith That puts Johnson, Bell, Young, Hall, Belton and Flemming on the bubble with possibly one spot left between them. I imagine that goes to bell. Why shorten the bench? How else are we going to carry as many as 10 or 11 defensive linemen? Last edited by bpc; 07-13-2007 at 09:53 PM.. |

Here's the bubble list as of this week simply because the MEDIA says so:
Rod Smith Sam Brandon David Kircus and in certain articles - Jay Cutler |
