Default D*** It! HELP ME!

Everything was going well with the new pc...(Now I am typing on the old one.) I had to download a driver to hookup the printer..and everything was going well. It took 1.5 hours to download and everything was fine until I tried to connect the USB cord between the printer and the computer. All of a sudden when I plugged it in the monitor went blank and the power on the computer went off and it won't come back on. The monitor will turn on but it goes to no input for both dvi and vgi. What the heck happened?

I did turn off the virus protection while it installed but it told me to do that. HELP!

Ok...I turned OFF the printer and now it came back on and it says I need to try uninstalling and reinstalling but it happened after it said it installed correctly the first time and I plugged the usb cord in.

Dang this wireless is tons faster

SO any ideas why it's going nuts when I plug in the USB cord?

PS...I apologize mods for putting this on the main page...but it's so frustrating!...and there are a lot of great computer geeks here

I did uninstall...and unplug the USB cord like it said...but since it takes an hour and half to install the software/needed driver, I think I'll wait and try it again tomorrow. But I need to have the printer on while I do it and it seemed to mess with the power on the pc.

Ok...
But what I don't get is it says it installed it successfully and then told me to connect the cord...that's when my monitor went black and the power shut down completely on the pc. I turned the monitor back on and it said no input...tried the power button on the pc and nothing until I turned the printer off. Weird stuff.

Good to know! I will check that out...but tomorrow...I'm done messing with it at the moment. It will just piss me off!
Or would that automatically be back on now since the power is now on?

I can download the driver and wait to connect the cable...it will give me that option.

I'll try it again tomorrow and if I don't have any luck, go into Office Max and see what they say. I think the service plan covered 3 visits and if they can't get it working, then they replace it or something like that...but I think it's the cord or something...PC seems to work fine otherwise.

Because it was an emergency and no one looks in off-topics...esp. this late. It can be moved. I just needed emergency info.

Are you sure you have the right type of USB cord? Did it come with the printer or did you buy it seperately?

I bought it separately. (But the guy at Office max said it would work.)
It's a USB 2.0 Hi speed cable

Emergency?? Why didn't you call 911??

A heart attack is an emergency... A break in is an emergency....

A busted printer driver installation is an emergency?

No...the fact that the PC didn't have any POWER was the emergency.
I was already going into withdrawal symptoms from the Mane
