I've gotta agree on Nirvana. I mean, Nevermind is certainly a good album, but it isn't particularly remarkable or original (if you disagree, go listen to predecessors like Mudhoney and The Pixies--even Husker Du to an extent--and get back with me). If Cobain were still alive today, that work would probably be more accurately accessed as good work but a product of the era, much like Pearl Jam and Alice and Chains are viewed today (both bands I like, by the way).

I can't believe you placed Rich freakin' Mullins in the same stratosphere as Radiohead and McCartney. A Rich Mullins plays in practically every college town bar in America. I walked out on one tonight as a matter of fact.

Seems pretty whiney to me, everything sucks, what else is new.
Music is an art form, it is not a competition. Just because music does not appeal to you does not mean it "sucks". Just because you are a loser working in a record store does not mean you know $hit about music. It means you work in a record store. So go get your shine box.... |

If I ever go to college...I will major in music, and my senior thesis will be titled "My Kazoo, and How it Made Me the Daddy of Rock 'n' Roll." (Credit the late Wesley Willis with the title Daddy of Rock 'n' Roll. Yes Wesley...you did whoop Batman's ass.)

![]() Iommi has one hand in his pocket (and the oth-er one is flash-ing a peace sign) Now that I think of it ... If Tony Iommi can have three fingertips severed in a machinery accident, and still go on to become a rock guitar god and change the face of rock music ... then why can't Darius Watts light the world on fire? Okay, then the fingertips in question are curled up out of sight on the WOP's shoulder. (Relax .. it just means 'With-Out Papers.') Actually, Iommi's story should be written up in some latter-day "Profiles in Courage." It was his LAST DAY on the job at the Birmingham/Midlands foundry or factory - whatever. He was leaving forever to London the very next day to play guitar on and record Black Sabbath's first album - when the accident clipped the first digits off three of his right fingering hand fingers (he plays lefty). I wouldda cried me a river, and probably jumped in a bottle somewhere and given up on life. But he persuades the other three (incl a young Ozzy) to give him some time, and he personally designs/engineers/sculpts three thimble-like fingertip prosthetics. Then, to accomodate their less-than-normal strength, both he and the bass played tune all their strings down ... WAY down from 'E' down to C# - which is a step and a half. That makes the strings looser and easier to manage. What resulted was a heavy, H E A V Y, muddy, gutteral "Iron Man" sound that become Sabbath's trademark, and changed rock music forever. That's where the term "heavy metal" came from. I'd read a book about him and his experiences. That is an amazing story. BTW- Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony tune down 1/2 step so the strings are looser for Eddy's pull-offs, etc... I dunno if he did it with Iommi in mind, but he insists, and even Michael Jackson agreed to accomodate him on 'Beat It.' Last edited by BroncoBuff; 06-24-2007 at 12:42 AM.. |

I agree...like AC/DC said "Rock'n'Roll aint noise pullotion, rock'n'roll wont never die" BTW didn't see anyone give Tom Petty or Pink Floyd or AC/DC or Pantera any props so here my props to them..and old Metallica kicks ass and Nirvana isn't to shabby either..so to the guy who wrote that article STFU..i bet Led Zeppelin sucks to..listen to Stairway To Heaven if you have any doubts.

Rich Mullins: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BbW4xwkQO...elated&search= He's very much an original in his genre. So much so that he had some problems with the institution. Last edited by epicSocialism4tw; 06-24-2007 at 01:03 AM.. |

But I'm biased ... Nevermind took my breath away, and still does somewhat. The 90s were great for music. Jagged Little Pill, Ten, Nevermind, Ingenue, Monster, Tragic Kingdom .... that's 6 of the greatest albums I know, all between 91 and 96. Maybe it was just that time in my life ... |
