A: Not so clear. 99% of blues songs use just three chords - the standard 1-4-5 progression.

Q: Were the lyrics and sometimes titles of these songs stolen?
A: Yes, undoubtedly.
This is not meant by way of making excuses, but Robert Plant was 20 years old when Led Zeppelin formed, and their first two records were recorded in less than one year - the second almost entirely recorded on the road in America. Six different cities were sites to recorded tracks on Led Zeppelin II. Page, who was 25 when Zep formed, has discussed in some depth since then the fact that Robert was not up to speed as a lyricist on the first two records. Not until the band retreated to the Scottish manor Bron-Yr-Aur for a month to write songs for their third album did Robert come into his own as a lyricist.

That is not an excuse, it's just an explanation. In my view, as a musician, the music was NOT stolen. Page changed and added too much to the simple 1-4-5 blues numbers for that. In fact, Howlin Wolf's "Killing Floor" sounds so very little like "The Lemon Song" side by side. Page added numerous music passages and ground-breaking sound auras (listen to the last 10 seconds of Lemon Song ... that echoed, synth sounding water-drop guitar effect. That is NOT Howlin' Wolf.)
I get the strange feeling that your a DIE-HARD LZ fan... hmmm. So was I between the ages of 11 and 16. Five beautiful years of LZ envy. Loved everything about them, consequently, I bought all their albums, had tapestries, black light posters, etc.

I still love LZ, I do!

You don't have to justify their music to me. I AGREE WITH YOU!!

When I said they "ripped off" other blues talents, that was a bit too strong of language. However, I still stand by my premis that they borrowed HEAVILY from American Blues. They then molded their own sound out of what they considered (Plant, Page mainly) good music. They DONE GOOD!

Me likey LZ too!

No, they don't. There's a reason most garage bands remain garage bands.

I know how you feel...that's about how I feel about Zeppelin (Mostly the band's cult of fans and Robert Plant are to blame for this...check the Zep thread in the OT forum for further explaination, if you care).

I grew up on The Doors and loved them ever since. The first album I ever bought was Absolutely Live. I was a little put off by the revival in the early 80's but not enough to put me off from the band themselves. BTW, I collect bootlegs of The Doors and Jimi Hendrix...if anyone has any I may not have, I'm willing to trade...PM me.
