Ok, I know this has nothing to do with football, but we're a week away from having a baby girl, and we are struggling to come up with a name. Just thought I'd get some opinions around here for fun.

Do you have any family names you can use? Any of the maiden names on either side? Middle names? Sometimes when you look at those you can get a tradition even if you twist it a bit. My father and daughter share a middle name - Dale and Dael. If there isn't anything in your parents or grandparents names think about the favorite Aunt - or Uncle. Many names don't seem to stick with gender anymore. Lots of girls are Glenns, Ryans, etc. The key seems to be finding something a bit different but not so unusual it becomes a burden for the kid. Again you can mess with the spelling Jaxen for Jackson. (That's one I like at the moment.)
Also instead of the popular or current trendy names, look at your ethnic heritage. You might find something different and fitting. |

IMHO I think you can't possibly go wrong with any of the names you have selected except Dylan. I think of Dylan as a predominantly boy's name.. although if you really like it for a girl I think there may be a certain cache (?spelling?) to that. And you can never go wrong with naming a child after a "voice of a generation".
I voted for Emma because I think that is the most feminine and regal or regally feminine name on your list. And from experience I know how difficult it is to agree upon a name for a child. But as was the case with both of our boys when my wife and I finally came up with the right name we both knew that was it and agreed wholeheartedly with the selection. Don't worry you will arrive at the proper conclusion to your name search and it will feel right. Last edited by GoHAM; 06-16-2007 at 02:46 AM.. |

I went with Allison...not really sure why. To me it has to sound OK with the last name and the whole thing either sounds ok or it doesn't.
My daughter's name is Taylor, so that is my only suggestion to your list. ![]() |

Rather than "Emma," I'll put in a vote for "Ella."
That's my grandma's name, and what we would name a daughter if we get so lucky. |

I ended up naming my first granddaughter, after they were thinking of such staples as Angelina. My granddaughters name is Kiana. I love that name.
I'm with Tredici on changing names around and middle names after beloved family members. All my kids have those and my kids have continued the tradition. Kiana has my name for her middle name and one of my grandsons has my maiden name as his middle name. |

My top two are Brooke & Allison
I like Alex a lot, but it doesn't quite square with my first point below. 1) I grew up with a name that some girls also have. Although I'm level headed & well adjusted, there were a few moments when it was no fun. 2) No offense to others who have gone this route, but I'm not a fan of messing with the spelling too much. Although it's an effort to be unique, it usually ends up appearing trendy and sometimes is just plain strange. Remember that the child will have to spend the first week of every school year teaching the teacher the pronunciation, and one day will have to put the name on a resume. |
