Default Possible trade rumor

I could see this working for both teams...

Super shuffle? McNabb, Briggs swap makes sense

Monday, May 21, 2007 2:06 pm EDT

Was the recent drafting of quarterback Kevin Kolb a sign that the Philadelphia Eagles might trade Donovan McNabb before the 2007 season?

That's one theory, anyway. As for a possible destination, the Chicago Bears are ready to win the Super Bowl. They might have won it last year except for a glaring weakness at quarterback.

The key to this scenario is Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who has said publicly that he will never play for Chicago again and who refused to report to minicamp on Friday.

Briggs is, arguably, the best weakside linebacker in the game and is only 26. He could help Philly rebuild its defense while Kolb gets ready to take control of the offense.

Wow. I would feel bad for McNabb - actually I'd feel worse for Kolb.

The NFC is so bad I can't stand even reading about them anymore. The Bears could make that trade and still not touch to top 5 or 6 teams in the AFC.

That would be something. I highly doubt it goes down, but I'd drink a whole pitcher of Bears Kool-Aid if they made that trade. Pencil them in for the SB.

IMO Briggs is so overrated it's not even funny. Any one of us would look steller with the talent they have on that DLine.

If the Bears were to land McNabb for Briggs and no other existing players, they would be hands-down the favorites in the NFC big-time. Having said that, I just don't see this trade happening....the cap hit to Philly would have to hurt given McNabb's contract.

That's a little extreme....they might've won the SB last year if they had a competent QB at the helm. Grossman took away any shot they had at winning. Now give them a top 5-7 QB and that ridiculous defense and they'd without a doubt be able to beat any team in the AFC on any given day.

Defense wouldn't be as ridiculous anymore with only one good LBer.

This trade is rediculous. Philly giving up on this year to get a good but not great linebacker? Who in their right mind thinks that Kolb is ready to start, or ever will be for that matter? No chance of this happening whatsoever.

Maybe/Maybe not...IMO even if you believe that Briggs really is that good and isn't just the product of having the best DLine in the league and best middle LBer in the league funneling things your way, the dropoff between Briggs and whatever LB they put in to replace him would be a lot less than the increase in talent from Grossman to McNabb would be.

Going back to the argument about the Bears not being able to compete with the top 5-6 teams in the AFC even with McNabb, chew on this: last season the Bears traveled to NE and lost by just four points. They managed to keep it close despite Grossman going 15 for 34 for 176 yards, O TDs and 3 INTs. I don't think McNabb has ever had a game that bad since he's in the league. Just an average statistical game by McNabb would have the Bears winning that game by at least 10 pts.

Bull****. Indy brought their B game and the outcome was never really in doubt. Their defense isn't even that ridiculous. They get to fluff up their stats playing with 3 of the most incredibly pathetic offenses in the NFL within their division. Their D is good, not great. Hell, Oakland's D played better against much tougher competition. They've had one of the top 3 easiest schedules in the NFL like 5 years in a row. Screw the Bears, they shouldn't scare any of the top 50% AFC teams.

And Miami shut the Pats out. Harrington is roughly comparable to Grossman. And oh ya, Miami destroyed the Bears. Miami!!!!!

Kolb would be under pressure, but Philly has Holcomb and Fiedler, one of which would start.

Eagles fans are totally gay for Feeley, so it wouldn't actually be that surprising if he went into the season as a starter. McNabb is just gonna get hurt anyways.

Are you serious? Yeah the only way the Bears could win it all is if they somehow could aquire Rivers.

The strength of the Bears D was the line. One good LB and two decent ones would work.

That would be the dumbest move ever by Philly. But man, Chicago would be salivating at the possibility.
