Denver signed Wisconsin S Roderick Rogers according to a Wisconsin fan close to their program.
Wouldn't be a bad FA signing. |

SICK!
He's a perfect addition to our safety corps. He'll give us a true over-the-top cover-guy who can come in and contribute as a situational guy. He has a lot of athletic ability. ![]() Hopefully this rumor is legit. |

Pretty thin for a safety, though athletic and runs very well. Worth a shot.

Roderick Rogers
(6'1", 183, 4.46) Strengths: Possesses good range, has long arms and can cover the deep half of the field. Shows a second gear when tracking the ball downfield, is tall enough to compete for jump balls and can recover when gets caught out of position. Though doesn't have great ball skills, gets hands on a lot of balls, flashes the ability to make the big play in coverage and is a dangerous open field runner. Plays with a mean streak, times hits well and flashes the ability to deliver the big hit over the middle. Shows good closing speed and takes the shortest path to the ball. Is relentless and makes plays in pursuit. Blocked a kick last year, is a high-motor player that can cover kicks and should make early contributions on special teams. Weaknesses: Though has the frame to add weight, doesn't have great bulk, lacks ideal lower body strength and is a liability when lining up in the box. Can be overaggressive, is vulnerable to play action and gets caught out of position at times. Gambles at times and is inconsistent. Though has adequate athletic ability, doesn't show great footwork and has some problems changing directions quickly. Knee injury in 2007 bowl game is a pressing concern. Overall: Rogers appeared in seven games as a true freshman in 2003 as a reserve defensive back and on special teams and made six total tackles. In 2004, he saw limited action in 10 games and made one total tackle. Rogers started all 13 games at free safety in 2005 and recorded 56 total tackles, three interceptions (one returned for an 84-yard touchdown), 11 pass breakups, one fumble recovery, and one blocked kick. In 2006 he started all 13 games at free safety and registered 36 total tackles, one tackle for loss, seven pass breakups, and one interception, earning All-Big 10 first team honors. He suffered a knee injury in the first half of the 2007 Capitol One Bowl. Rogers is a playmaker with excellent speed but he isn't fundamentally sound and he needs to add bulk to his frame. He has enough talent to warrant a late-round pick but Rogers could go "undrafted" due to uncertainty regarding his knee injury. |

I like his chances to make the team. We don't have anybody else in the deep corps with that kind of speed. He could come in and contribute right away on special teams. Maybe get a look at gunner.

he needs to gain some significant weight. Otherwise this guy is gonna look like Foxworth when he had to play some S. I like my safeties to be at least 215.

Awesome, this gives us the speed we need in at the safety spot, hopefully he makes the team through at least special teams and can develop into something special by season start.

You are getting excited pretty damn easily. I do not see him making the team. Just way too light.

He doens't have to be huge to be the other safety. Lynch shores up the run stopper safety for now. We need the other safety to be the cover guy, like an Ed Reed. Haven't seen him play so I can't say if I like the move or not, just stating a cover safety is more needed right now then a run stopper.

here is an interview with him. Sounds like a good pickup.
by Michael Abromowitz, 3/1/07. Roderick Rogers, was one of the team's co-MVPs on a Wisconsin Badger team that lost just one game. Much of the Badgers success has to do with Rogers' job as the quarterback of the defense. He was a consensus all Big 10 second team. With 4.4 speed and being 6'1, Rogers is versatile enough to play both cornerback and safety. He also has the experience that scouts love, starting the last 25 games of his career. Let him heal if he needs to go on IR. Have him fattened up a bit. It doesn't say what the knee was. ACL is no big deal anymore. Torn cartilage is worse actually.
We need a cover safety. |

Dammit, I was hoping we could get a full house of bad character guys. That's damn good speed that could put on some pounds and still be a cover safety. Excellent pickup hopefully.
What was with the knee? |
