Some wanted a RB, but that wasn't a need spot. Besides, can get one next year if want one since a deeper, better class of RB next season.

Some wanted LB, but they just signed 2 right before the draft, so that pretty much ended that IMO.

Some wanted safety, but Brandon coming back and both Abdullah and Cox are young guys too, so not sure how big a need that is right now either.

I think most of us agreed the DL was the biggest problem and the Broncos seemed to think so too.

Whether they all pan out is a big question of course, but at least they took the DL seriously for a change and not just looking or bandaid castoff answers once again.

It's time somebody (Pat Bowlen) did an intervention at Dove Valley and got Shanahan into GA (Gambler's Anonymous). The gambling streak that makes Shanahan a great game-day coach, makes him a draft day liability. It's as if he doesn't believe that a trade, or a pick, is worth a damn unless he's risking it all. And if you look at his history, his abiltiy to calculate risk is about as good as some drunk shoveling dollars into a slot machine. Carter, IHOP, Clarett, etc. Now, one of the worst health risks in the draft in Moss (who also got a suspension), and the worst behavior risk in the draft, hands down, in Thomas. And, they were teammates - and roommates! Great way to separate them from their pasts! And he gave up next year's third to take that risk. That's like going to the ATM in Vegas when you're down a thousand. He flushed this year's draft and some of next year's to gamble on Moss and Thomas. Why didn't he just trade the entire draft and get Jamaal or Gaines Adams? At least in that set up, your reward is worth more than the risk.

Very happy with this draft. There's a reason that these guys are going on the 2nd day, whether it's talent, crappy work ethic, character, etc. I'd rather Shanny took a chance on a bad character guy who definitely has 1st round talent, then gamble on someone with questionable talent.

There weren't very many holes on this team, despite what the draftniks wanted to believe, and the holes on defense can be mitigated through improved play from the DL. This was a 9-7 team that lost 4 home games last year where they were leading in the 2nd half in all of them. They went out an upgraded the team through FA, and addressed in the draft what they didn't address in FA, the DL. Sucks they gave up a 3rd next year to get back into the 4th this year, but there was no way that move could be made without giving up an '08 pick. They're still up a 4th and a 7th next year, and that 7th could still turn into another 4th.

Geez, the hysteria continues. Giving up a 3rd rounder while you have 2 4ths to use if want to trade into the magical 3rd round is throwing away a draft. Guys smoking weed, which typically gets excused and condoned by many people this country, unless I guess you're an athlete and drafted by the Broncos. Then you're a pariah in that case.

Excellent.

I just read about Marcus Thomas. Good lord, a DT that gets tackles for losses and sacks. Wow, bad move Shanny!

What a freakin fantastic draft this was. Instead of a bunch of scrubs with one or two guys probably sticking, I like the chances of every one of our picks sticking and contributing for years to come.

Oops, I think I got Popps and Hogan mixed up...

I hope Popps is happy now, he certainly can't complain that the defensive line was not addressed.

No we don't. We gave up one 6th to get Moss, and the other one to get Thomas. We shot our wad!

Shanny was just on nfl network and said they may not be done. I think he was probably joking but he did say it like he was making a point!!

I seriously doubt the Broncos are gonna trade anything in next year's draft to move into the late rounds of this draft, Shanny was just messing with the NFLN guys.

I thought it was a nice draft. We addressed our biggest need and hopefully these guys can help in year one. Also got a good tackle prospect. People need to relax on these "character" issues. Neither of these guys are Clarett, so lets all relax on that. And taking Marcus Thmas is not really a risk! It's a 4th round pick and gave up a 3rd rounder next year. It's not like they drafted him 5th overall...I think the reward can really outweigh the risk.

Go take a cold shower and get over it.

By next September it will be clear to everyone that Shanahan was right, as usual. Our draft program has been getting better -- and 07 will continue that trend.

True, Shanny does like to roll the dice on draft day, but it's a little crazy to say he's totally incompetent at it.

Fact is, we will just have to see how this all pans out. I'm kinda excited about taking 3 defensive lineman from the last two national championship teams. Fact is, the Broncos needed a talent infusion on the dline, they got that, along with a very good defensive coordinator in Bates.
