SoDak Broncos Mock Draft
#21) - Joe Staley - OT Central Michigan -Denver needs an athletic left tackle to protect the franchise QB in Cutler. Although this may upset Bronco fans in the short-term, this is a good investment, and will help anchor the line in years to come.
#56) - Paul Soliai, NT, Utah - Big Body that Bates and Shanny will want to have to help keep guards off the LB's. Soliai is a solid value, and a def. need for the Broncos. Denver cannot overlook the importance of having some high-motor big guys to make plays.
#70) - Eric Weddle - S -Utah- The second Ute taken by the Broncos. If Weddle is here at this pick, Denver will sprint to the podium to make the selection. Weddle can make an instant impact on ST's and will be able to learn under Lynch and Co. and with high football IQ will be ready to play right away.
#86) - Justin Durrant - ILB - Hampton - Durrant is speedy and will be a very good player, and will have a chance to start for Denver. This may be a little high, but Denver jumps at the chance to get another small school LB that will make big plays day 1.
#176) - Kolby Smith - RB - L'ville - Smith provides Denver with some Depth at RB, and is a solid value, and a 1 cut back that may slip into the 6th round. Shanny tries to continue to find solid players in the later rounds with Kolby.
#198) - Laurent Robinson -WR - Ill. St - Runs a 4.38, fast, skinny, just how Shanny likes them. Was very stellar at D1-AA, Denver needs to find someone to make plays on ST.
#233) - Chase Pittman -DE - LSU - Denver finally addresses DE with their last pick of the day. Pittman has some solid upside, and has a nice frame, but will need to work hard on speed to make the final roster. practice squad is in his future...
There it is, let me know what you think....

I really like 2, 3 & 4 picks. As for Staley,

21 - No thanks, I'd rather take Jermon Bushrod in round 6, he's bigger, stronger, just as fast, and is a four year starter with great intangibles. 21 is for a play maker, DE, LB, S, or WR. Not a facilitator.
56 - Gross overpick. Soliai has character issues that have gotten him suspended twice in two years. Plus he's a fatty. Fatty + attitude problem = police incident outside of local IHOP. Now if he was a 3rd rounder, ok, I'd be interested. The financial investment goes down dramatically and if he's a tea bagger we can just drop his ass.
70 - Great pick if he's there. I doubt it, but you never know, would be truly awesome.
86 - Yeah! Another WILL! Just what we need! Never mind that he's a ten pounds heavier, slower version of Ian Gold. There is no way this kid doesn't make a jump from Div. 1-AA Hampton to the pros to be an immediate play maker! Totally worth a first day pick.
176 - Good pick. He'd be a great fit for our running system. Bit redundant when we have two guys who are nearly identical in play style in Henry and Bell, but you take what you can get. Smith would do well here, challenge Bell for the #2 spot and give us flexability down the road if someone gets hurt or Henry doesn't play up to his money. I'd like a flier on Garrett Wolfe if he's still here instead, as he'd provide a speed back option, but I really like Smith too.
198 - Not bad either. This board will tell you we should go after Figurs there, but he won't slide and he's even more frail than Robinson.
233 - Not bad again, one of those "get what you get" type of guys. Might become a decent rotational pick or never amount to anything, but its a 7th rounder.
Sorry if its a bit harsh, but if thats the type of draft we put together this team will be in for a rough few years scraping more retreads together to fill the holes while praying on three overpicked high boom/bust potential first day picks to work out.

A typical Shanny draft leavs you scatching your head..
I would not be suprised if Staley is the number one pick if we stay at 21. Shanny has said he want to get bigger on the OLINE and still stay athletic.

1. i like the staley pick. if we dont go Dline. i wouldnt mind going on the other line.
2. i am not a big fan of Solia. i think its a little high for him. But he could be a good two gap tackle. definetly not a first year starter. i would want someone at this pick that could contribute on ST's his first year over him
3. Everyone wants this kid. i would think this is a good spot to take him. Kid just makes plays. i would prefer a gattis over him but he can play on special teams
4. i would rather have zak deossie over him. he could play middle. might not start his first year or ever but is a long snapper
Im not to hip on the last couple of picks. but usually these guys dont make your roster.
overall pretty decent
