Has anyone eaten here?
Benny's Restaurante y Tequila Bar 301 E 7th Ave, Denver, CO 80203 · 303-894-0788 User Rating: (Rate It) My Lists: (Add to My Lists) Avg. Entrée: $$1 - $15 Reservations: Available, Available Dress: CC: Casual Outdoor Dining: None CAPITOL HILL. As twilight falls over the gently sloped streets of Capitol Hill, it's not unusual to see a crowd lingering at Seventh and Logan. Put your name in for a table at this ever-lively Mexican eatery and you'll soon be part of the throng. Happily, food and drink are worth the wait – well-stuffed enchiladas, crispy sopapillas with honey, and delicious frozen strawberry margaritas by the pitcher. Friendly, attentive waitstaff move the evening along smoothly, and authentic Mexican fare continues to please Denverites after nearly 20 years. Judging by the hungry crowds every night, Benny's is just getting started. |

I do believe the ESPN Zone place is still next to the Westin. Damnit, I forget what street it is though, its been ages since I've been downtown. I miss it

If you want THE BEST BURRITO in town you have to try one from Santiagos. Their breakfast burritos are awesome, and at $2 a wack also a great deal. Their smothered Beef and chicken burritos are also top of the heap. Just don't ask for the hot unless you have a cast iron stomach. I usually do the 1/2 and 1/2. |

Couple of things.
Benny's = good, cheap mexican food. Thumbs up. Good margs. Gov'nrs Park= Terrible, terrible food (I'm jaded, I used to bartend there and I'll never eat there again) That said, they have one of the best happy hours in Denver. 2-1 Draft beers, LIT and house margs. If you are getting the house marg, make sure you combine the 2 margs into one. They are pretty weak. Not the case with the Long Islands. Those things are served in 24 ounce glasses and they'll kick you ass. Very good though. I think they have about 20 beers on tap. Happy hour is 4-7 everyday but sunday. TGN, you talking about Santiago's down on Broadway, south of Hampden? their breakfast burritos are awesome. As for downtown, there are a ton of restaurants. One of my favorites is BD's Mongolian BBQ. Inexpensive $7-9 per entry and the choices are unlimited. 1620 Wazee. Just take the 16th street mall shuttle down to market and walk a block or two towards Union Station. Sassy, you might want to check out the Blue Bonnet in Denver.
http://www.bluebonnetrestaurant.com It is not downtown, but just a few stops (ten minutes) away, via the Light Rail. While it is not THE best Mexican fare in Denver, it is definitely among the best. And, trust me, there are not that many “bests” in Denver, as strange as that may seem. At any rate, you will not be disappointed. The seating is ample (but always a slight wait on a Saturday night), the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are amazingly moderate for what you get (and you get MUCHO)! Plus, there are adequate, strategically placed, TV monitors for watching the games—that is if you can HEAR them, over the lively crowd! As a culinary aficionado, I would not recommend a just so-so place, for what it’s worth. So, again, you will not be disappointed. Buck |

QUOTE=Sassy;1712326]We've never taken the light rail...what the's procedure?
We are staying at the Red Lion by Invesco.[/QUOTE] It’s pretty simple, really. And one small one-time daily fare will take you anywhere you want to go in the Denver area—which also includes the bus (arggh) connections. No need to transfer to an RTD bus, however, to get to the Blue Bonnet. Actually, since I live a good way from downtown—and have only used the light rail to go downtown (to include the Bronco’s games)—perhaps it would be better to solicit the explicit advice from a better informed Denverite in here. Meanwhile, you could check out this link for light rail schedules/stops: http://www.rtd-denver.com/LightRail/index.html From Invesco, you would get off at the Alameda station, to get to the Blue Bonnet—walking distance from the stop. |
