CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Kris Jenkins was scheduled to leave town Tuesday, with the knowledge he probably won't return as a member of the team -- though he hasn't heard that from them. According to his publicist, Jenkins was planning to head to his new offseason home in Maryland to huddle with his agent since his football future's up in the air. The Panthers have been exploring trade options for the three-time Pro Bowler, but have not updated him on any progress that may or may not be made on that front. "The last time I talked to Kris, he said he still hasn't heard from the team," publicist Livis Freeman said Tuesday. "Right now, he just wants to be wanted. This was completely out of the blue to him. ... "He wants to go somewhere they want him to play, and if that's Carolina, so be it. But if it's someplace else, so be it too." Freeman, who represents many of the 27-year-old's off-field interests, said that Jenkins has been working out with a personal trainer, and was in "amazing shape." Jenkins has battled weight problems in past offseasons, and the Panthers have never been thrilled with his lack of attendance at organized team workouts. His football agent (Tony Paige) hasn't returned phone calls seeking comment this week. Freeman said Jenkins was eager to talk about the situation, but was declining interview requests upon the advice of his agent. As of now, the Panthers aren't saying anything either, though they are still listening to offers. St. Louis, Kansas City and Denver appear to be the leading candidates to land Jenkins. According to multiple league sources, the Panthers are looking for draft pick compensation, though they were apparently underwhelmed by the first round of talks. While they're said to be averse to giving him away, they're hoping for more than the third-round (or later) picks which have been discussed so far. Freeman said Jenkins was still a bit baffled at being shopped, and that to his knowledge, hadn't asked for a renegotiation of his contract. He has three years left on the five-year, $31 million extension he signed in September 2003. He was planning to unveil some new charity efforts in the area soon, but has shelved those plans until he knows where he's playing next year. FOUR MORE YEARS FOR MIXON: Panthers Radio Network play-by-play broadcaster Mick Mixon has agreed to a new four-year deal with the team, according to radio industry sources. Mixon originally signed on for two years upon replacing Bill Rosinski prior to the 2005 season, and is prepared to sign the new pact soon. He was a controversial hire in many quarters, largely because of the popularity of Rosinski, who joined the team prior to the inaugural 1995 season. Rosinski still lives in the area and hosts a daily sports talk show on WFNZ (610-AM), and calls NFL games for Westwood One on the weekends during the fall. EXTRA POINTS: The Panthers will find out today their schedule for the coming season. The league initially intended to announce last week, but there was a delay. Because of other opening week contests which have already been announced, the Panthers have fewer options if they get to start at home this year. They'd either face Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Seattle or Houston if they open here, since the rest of their opponents are already booked that weekend. The Panthers have opened at home five straight years, losing the previous three to Atlanta (2006), New Orleans (2005) and Green Bay (2004). |

Okay, give them #70 and call it a day. They'd have to offer their seconds to beat it.

I would like to land him. For a third, would be a great deal, imo.

Take "Amazing Shape" from his agent with a grain of salt.
Fine, raise it to our high third then check. |

Most especially don't let KC get him. Crap, they have the 54 vs our 56 in the second. Looks like the 70 third round would force them to use the 54 if they are really interested. St Louis trumps both KC and Denver at 52 in the second.
I would think the 70 third round would have to be our offer. If KC , St louis offer their 2nds we lose. 1st round is out of the question at this point. Even at a high third Jenkins would be a steal. Make it so! ![]() |

If cap room is the real reason they are trying to move him, then Carolina won't have that much interest in Wilson. If they are interested in Wilson then Jenkins is damaged goods and we should be suspicious. I'd limit it to our high third.
But if he is healthy, then this one move solidifies our D-line and moves it from questionable to solid. The draft is a gamble in any case. A third still leaves us with three first day picks to get another DL and safety. Draft should be all about Defense unless someone drops in our lap on offensive side. |

If cap room is the reason Jenkins is going to want close to what wilson was making. I know denver's doctors say he is fine to play. Look what happened in NY. So you could say Wilson is damaged goods as well.
Not to mention Panthers need a linebacker with Morgan and his concussions. |

Didn't you read: he is now in "amazing shape"!! Actually, those pictures are a little concerning, but I would still be more than happy to see the man on the right in a broncos uniform.

Actually he's going to be the subject of my column this Friday. KC should steer well clear of this guy. Red flags all over him. I want NOTHING to do with him.

Carolina probably has a need for a safety so the Chiefs could package Greg Wesley in a trade to Carolina for Kris Jenkins.
