When the Duke Lacrosse case was coming out, the liberals went ape over Rush Limbaugh calling the accuser a "ho". The problem is, her name was Chrystal Gayle - not Crystal Gail. I guess her parents only wanted to go half the way with her name.

Word is, the accused have been having a pretty hard time since the charges were brought. Some of them have even been talking in their sleep. The good thing is that their families never gave up on them. And in return, they never stopped believing in magic.

A coach was fired, that team's season was canceled and a lot of those boys have the shadow of this hanging over them and will for some time. Personally, I think that they should avoid anything with strippers in general, but the point is that she ruined a lot of people's lives with her lies.

Mangum was wasted, gave a half-assed dance and then they anounced they were leaving and demanded the money (IIRC $300 for about a 10-minute show, probably booked for a half-hour). The boys felt they'd been ripped off and insisted they pay less than what was negotiated. That's when things got ugly and, if you believe the next-door neighbor, racial comments were hurled as the two retreated to the other stripper's car.

That's when Mangum realized that she'd left her purse (with her money) in the bathroom and went back to go get it. Mangum later claims she was raped and sodomized in the bathroom by three white players while the men claim she locked herself in the bathroom and came out later unharmed and went back to the car.

The other girl then drove Mangum to a nearby market and called 9-1-1 to complain about a "disturbance" (note, not sexual assault of any kind). By the time a security guard went to observe them in the market parking lot, Mangum had passed out.

Reading between the lines, I believe that the angry students probably did say some ugly things and the women feared for their safety. I think they wanted to get back at the boys which is why the 9-1-1 call was made to complain about the taunts. Mangum invents the rape charge either in hopes of getting even with the students or perhaps shaking them down for more money.

It probably would have all blown over in a couple of days and been nothing but a local story were it not for Nifong turning it into a media circus and the media, for their part, playing up all their favorite biases (white Southern racist males, etc) which presumed Mangum was telling the truth even as her story had enormous holes from the very beginning - ones the local press quickly discovered but the national media ignored because it didn't fit their desired agenda.

I'll never forget the interview in the local paper where Mangum's father is interviewed and he said "If the charges are true..." If?? Sir, that's your daughter! Most fathers would be out there with shotguns if their daughter cried rape but this guy says "If it's true"?? That told me right there the woman has told a few whoppers in her time and her daddy knew better than to believe her story without some evidence.
