I'm new to posting so please be nice, lol.
I think that Shanahan really believes Cutler is special. I think this can also be seen by the offseason moves. The team is now solid at most positions and has depth at most positions. This team also has a good mix of veteran and young starters, but is quite young in the backup positions. This confidence in Cutler and overall youth and depth sets the stage for a departure from previous denver draft day philosopy, aka best player available. I think Shany believes he needs a few specific positions in this draft, and they must be impact players at these positions, causing the need to move to areas where predetermined picks can be had with decent value. (In other words I believe Denver has 4-7 players targeted, maybe less, and will look to move to positions where these players are fair value.) This proposed line of thinking leads me to this first day: Denver Trades: #21, #70, and 2008 1st rnd Washington Trades: #6 and 2008 2nd With #6 Denver picks Gaines Adams With #56 Denver picks Marcus Thomas Denver trades : Al Wilson and #86 Detroit trades : #66 and #101 With #66 Denver picks : Tank Tyler On the first day Denver gets the only can't miss pure 4-3 DE. Taking 2 large DT, both with slight motor issues, back to back only 10 picks apart in the second should light a fire under all our DT's. One of these DT's absolutly must contribute in a big way and taking two will help insure this happens. Denver also will have Washingtons 2nd next year and if needed could get back into 2008 rnd one via trade with 2 2nd"s. We also move to the top of rnd 4, a good spot to pick up a day safety or linebacker that drops. What do you think?? And Please be nice. Bronco Bill |

I'm fundamentally against any trade where Denver gives up a future 1st pretty much regardless of the return

I just don't understand folks facination with Thomas. The guy has been in trouble four times on the field and has several brushes off the field. His DL coach said he should have been cut for lack of effort and being lazy. The team actually played much better once he was kicked off the team. He shows up for his personal workouts completely out of shape, runs slower than almost any DT at the combine and then begs off on the rest of the drills.

That is why I have 2 DT picks, all have some issues and good upside. I would bet half of the 2nd and 3rd rnd tackles bust and we must get one to really contribute. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on all these guys and have rated them all over the place which adds to my fear of all them.
I could really see an eric Weddle, Joe Staley, or top linebacker left at number 56, and Soliai with number 101 in this scenario. Thanks for the input. |

My thoughts on the draft concern the Cutler factor, too, but with a differnt twist. I believe Shanahan will want to stack the deck and totally gas up the Porsche as he flips the keys to Jay.
I think we will see OL, WR drafted early. We will patch up the D with spare parts again this year. Not to say we won't see a piece or two on D from the draft, but I truely believe you will see Shanahan make sure we are healthy at OT. He will want to see our youngster well protected and probably find him a jet to stretch the opposing D, too. |

I think Denver will approach draft same as always. They will make a draft board of the players they see draftable and then go at it. No way they will narrow it down to even 10 players they like. Now will they target a specific player? sure maybe they will but I doubt they trade away next years first round pick, that seems very un broncoish to me.

First day has been largely DBs and a smattering of LBs and DEs plus Cutler, Bell and a few WRs busts. |

I think we somehow trade up for Amobi Okoye in the 1st and manage to get Tim Crowder from Texas in the 2nd. The rest is a crap shoot until I think about it some more. That would solve our d-line problems and then we concentrate on weapons for Jay.

I wouldn't be shocked if we went Rd1 WR, Rd2 RB, Rd3 OT/CB.;

I'm not going to be surprised at all if they take a WR in the 1st, especially if the 1st round DL guys are gone. I just don't see them taking a S at #21 unless it's Nelson, maybe Griffin if they move down.

Would love to see them grab one of the WR studs. I think there will be value at 21 with a WR because of the depth of the class. Given that it is so deep, one could probably be had later on (2nd, 3rd). Wouldn't surprise me to see the WR at one either...esp given Marshall's distractions. |
