Notes: Broncos' Wilson skips workout; Cards sign Gandy
Updated 2h 14m ago | Comment | Recommend 2 E-mail | Save | Print | From wire reports DENVER — There was no sign of Broncos middle linebacker Al Wilson on the first day of Denver's offseason workout program Monday. However, Wilson's agent, Peter Schaffer, cautioned reading anything into his absence. "It's voluntary," Schaffer said of the workouts. "It's also his son's spring break. He's spending time with him." The Broncos have been shopping Wilson around in recent weeks. Schaffer has worked to try to facilitate a trade for Wilson, who's due $5.2 million in base salary next season. Asked if any deals were imminent, Schaffer simply said, "Waiting to see." Wilson led the team in tackles with 113 last season. He's also the team's undisputed leader on defense. FIND MORE STORIES IN: NFL | National Football League | Arizona | Broncos | Buffalo | Wilson | Chicago Bears | Free-agent | Mike Gandy "We all missed him today," cornerback Domonique Foxworth said. Foxworth said the fact that Wilson is on the trading block should be a wake-up to every player. "It tells you everybody is expendable in this business," he said. "The business part of the game comes before the team and unity part in many instances, especially (this) one. I don't think anybody in this organization will say that we're better off without his personality around. For whatever reasons they felt we'll be better off going in a different direction." Foxworth hasn't spoken with Wilson, but plans to in the future. "I'll probably give him a call when everything cools out ... just to tell him how much he meant to me and my maturation, and how much he meant to this organization," Foxworth said. Foxworth didn't know if Wilson would be back with the Broncos. "All that off-the-field stuff is out of our hands," Foxworth said. "We'll miss him. We miss him already." Arizona signs free-agent tackle to three-year deal TEMPE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals helped fill a big hole on the offensive line on Monday by signing free agent Mike Gandy to a three-year contract. Terms were not disclosed. Gandy started all 16 games for the Buffalo Bills last season, nine at left guard and seven at left tackle. The seven-year pro started 16 games at left tackle for the Bills in 2005. The Cardinals, under new coach Ken Whisenhunt, are in need of a left tackle after allowing Leonard Davis to leave as a free agent. Arizona would love to draft Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas, but he is expected to be gone by the time the Cardinals make their pick at No. 5 overall. With Gandy at tackle in 2005, Buffalo's Willis McGahee ran for a career-high 1,247 yards. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound lineman was a third-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears out of Notre Dame in 2005. He started 30 games for the Bears — at right guard, left guard and left tackle. Gandy signed with the Bills as a free agent in 2005. In all, Gandy has played in 64 NFL games, 60 as a starter. Gandy worked out for the Cardinals shortly after the free agency period began a month ago. Overhauling the team's underachieving offensive line is a major priority for Whisenhunt and assistant Russ Grimm. Earlier, Arizona signed Dallas free agent center Al Johnson. Browns sign safety Adam CLEVELAND — Safety Mike Adams signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns on Monday, adding some depth to their secondary. Adams had 67 tackles in 16 games with the San Francisco 49ers last season, including eight starts. He had 139 tackles and five interceptions in three seasons with the 49ers, who signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Delaware. He likely will back up Sean Jones and Brodney Pool in the secondary, which was hurt by injuries last season. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/foot...ok_N.htm?csp=34

Is it just me or has Fox been commenting on basically everything this offseason?

Peter Schaffer is doing the typical agent spin control. The Broncos front office don't want Wilson at the workouts (injury concerns) just to make sure that when they cut him he can't have an injury greivance with them.
It's both sides protecting each of their asses. AW is gone and Denver is just waiting for the draft to see what falls in their lap. If they don't land a backer in the draft, then they will turn their attention to Hartwell. |

I consider Foxworth one of the most intellegent guys on the team... his tone, as it is gaging the pulse of the team does not sound like a good one.

I love Fox in the press, the guy is intelligent, and my fav rook to come in 2 years ago. I cant wait to see what he can do again this year.
Onto Al, Im going to miss him, and i bet he is gone by draft day or on draft day... which sucks. |

I wouldn't rule out his return just yet. As time goes by he might decide this is best option and take a paycut then.

It is very foreboding that AW is MIA at the Offseason Training. Holding out hope that he returns to the Orange and Blue is becoming a fleeting hope.

Off topic, but since there's not another thread for it, I think it's amazing how much foxworth has matured over the last 2 years. I remember hearing him last year and thinking, "This is his 2nd year in the league? He sounds like a vet...."
This is way premature, but how long do you think the Broncos can retain him? He's in his rookie contract, was it a 3 or 5 year deal? I really, really like Foxworth as a player and as a personality for the team. With Bly and Champ locked in for the long haul, I wonder how he fits in with the teams long term plans. |

Green shows for offseason workouts
The Chiefs started their off-season conditioning program on Monday, and Green was one of the participants. Edwards said last week Green would be excused. “That’s Trent,” Edwards said Monday. “That’s what you love about the guy. He’s a pro. He’s still with us. He’s still on the Chiefs roster. He should be here. He’s still with us. Until something happens, he’s a Chief.” And that, Donk fans, is the difference between a leader, and someone claiming to be a leader. |
