EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Claude Julien was fired as New Jersey Devils coach Monday and replaced by general manager Lou Lamoriello with a week to go in the regular season. The firing comes after the Devils won four of their last five games. The team is in first place in the Atlantic Division with three games to go. Julien guided the Devils to the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, posting a 47-24-8 mark in his only season as coach. The move marks the second time in as many seasons that Lamoriello has stepped behind the bench. Last season he led the Devils to the Atlantic Division title after Larry Robinson resigned unexpectedly in December. Monday's firing isn't the only time Lamoriello made a late-season coaching move. He fired Robby Ftorek late in the 2002-2003 season and Robinson eventually led the team to its third Stanley Cup since 1995. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could you ever imagine this happening in the NFL? Say we were 1st in the AFC West and sitting in the 2nd seed and Ted Sunquist fired Mike Shanahan and decided to coach the team in the playoffs. There'd be riots in Denver. |

It sort of happened with the Chargers, granted it was at the end of the season, but firing a coach that went 14-2 is unprecedented. |

It goes to show you put up results...but if you're an a-hole for example..they'll kick you out the door.

Sounds like the GM just wants to make himself feel good. The last time it happened he led them to win the Stanley Cup and he probably wants to do it again. Seeing as I don't follow hockey much there's no telling if there was an ongoing rift as there was in SD. Sounds to me like the GM strokin' his ego though.

I do remember Dance Party USA. It was an 80's dance show on the USA network. That chick who is Regis' sidekick started on there.
I remember it being filmed in Philly though, not New Jersey. |
