I hope so just so that we can get that high fourth rounder. That will help make up for the fact that Wilson's trade value has plummeted.
![]() http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17815122/ PHOENIX - Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden said Monday he will keep trying to persuade quarterback Jake Plummer to eschew retirement and battle for the starting job, the St. Petersburg Times reported Tuesday. "We're trying to hook up with him to see if we'll have some opportunities to sit down with him face-to-face,'' Gruden told the newspaper. "Jake Plummer is hanging in the balance right now.'' Gruden said Plummer, 32, still has not submitted his retirement papers to the NFL. Story continues below ↓advertisement "We're using time as a cure-all here,'' Gruden told the Times. "Let the dust settle a little bit and see what Jake wants to do. There's a lot of people who appear to have spoken to him or have an opinion on what's really going on. But the bottom line is he's deciding right now what he wants to do. "He's a hell of a player, the tape I look at. All you have to do is watch the Broncos play. We'll see what happens with his situation the next couple of weeks.'' In his first public comments since the free agency period began, Gruden said the Bucs have enough ammunition to move up in next month's NFL draft and suggested Tampa Bay may select a quarterback in the first round, the Tampa Tribune reported. Speaking briefly Monday before heading into a seminar at the annual owners meetings, Gruden addressed a variety of issues, including the 11 new players acquired by Tampa Bay since the March 2 start of free agency. "Our offseason is just beginning, really," said Gruden, coming off a 4-12 season that saw the Bucs tumble from first to last in the NFC South. "We've still got the draft and some unattended business, but we've got some players in here that we know can play. "It's exciting to have a Jeff Garcia here. Luke Petitgout is a guy who has played left tackle and Cato June is a good football player. Kevin Carter can play a lot of positions, and B.J. Askew is an interesting guy. "It was nice to sit in quarterback school last week with a healthy Chris Simms, a Bruce Gradkowski, who has played 13 games in this league, plus a veteran guy we like. We're excited about our quarterback situation, plus we've got Jake Plummer to talk about. We'll see what happens there." |

$7 million is a powerful motivator.
After last season I think Plummer was just pissed from the whole situation and said "**** it, I'm done with football". But like Gruden said, after some time he began to reconsider it. |

I'm wondering what happens if Plummer decides to return after the draft has come and gone. How are we compensated in that scenario?

Hopefully he comes into camp and throws a pass or two... One 4th round pick coming up.

This is Jakes biggest fault. He cannot make a quick decision on anything.
Make a choice, even if wrong one (he has done that the same amount of times as he has thrown a TD), but never flip flop! |

For that alone he can screw off. Couldn't just report, go to camp and see if he could take Sims' job. a-hole. |

He is holding the papers as a negotiating tool on the bonus money. I for one think he is made up his mind and retired, but it would be funny for him to show up a Buc's camp with a beer gut, take a nap on the sidelines and say now give me my $7 million suckers.

I don't, I just wanted the early 4th round pick.
Jake played some good football here, he played some bad football here. All in all I'd say its more of the former than the later, but I'll take Cutler over him no question. I just think its pretty weak that he didn't say a word about retiring until we traded him, and he still hasn't finalize it. He should have made his choice two months ago, instead he's just screwing with everyone else. Either he doesn't have a clue, in which case he should have just reported and saw how he felt in camp, or he's just trying to be a dick. I'd like to think its not the later. |

Yeah, we lose out on a 4th round pick that would probably have been in and out of football within 2 years.
Call me a skeptic, but I dont see it as that big of a loss. And he did mention retirement before the whole trade thing came down. Several times it was mentioned offhand in articles. |

This whole soap opera is only relevant because we might get a draft pick... and only mildly relevant at that. My response.... blah, blah, blah. Who cares?

From some of the players quotes since the end of the season, it appears it was common knowledge in the locker room that he was seriously kicking around the idea of retirement before mid season.

Im in Jakes camp. Whatever he wants to do is fine. Id love for Denver to get that 4th rounder.
He knows that he will have to pay us 7 million, so I could see him coming back so he doesnt have to pay. |
