I know we redshirted Domenik Hixon, but there's nothing wrong with a little competition.
Anybody else want to see us grab Johnnie Lee Higgins, Yamon Figurs or David Clowney next month? I think Figurs is the one I like the best. He's incredibly smooth in the way he reaches that fifth gear only a select few have and he's tough enough to excel as a gunner in punt coverage. |

I'd be thrilled with Yo. Clowney not so much and I know nothing of Lee Higgins. I need to go read up on him...

I hope Hixon can fill that position. Or Quincy Morgan, if he's given a realistic shot at it. We just need someone who'll get us out to the 25 or 30 consistently. An occasional long one is nice, but consistency is even nicer. Last year, I wanted to kill Brian Clark when he'd either run it out from seven yards deep, or take off laterally - away from his blockers - hoping to break something.

Of those three I like Figurs the best.
I also wouldn't mind Kenny Scott, Travarous Bain, and Garrett Wolfe. |

I loved Garrett Wolfe in college, but have serious doubts about his ability to translate his skill set to the next level.
If I were to rank them in order of preference: Domenik Hixon - truly an outstanding player Yamon Figurs - crazy speed Higgins - may not be there on day 2 Clowney - one of my least favorite receivers at the Senior Bowl practices. |

A return guy would be nice...although I think Morgan will probably have that area covered well at least in the KR area. PR is going to be a problem though. I wouldn't mind it if we had more Day 2 picks. As it stands, all we have are 2 6s and 1 7 now that the Wilkinson deal has been nixed.

They said Yamon forced three fumbles as a gunner on punt coverage. Mike Mayock said he's the best gunner in the country. This is a kid who could step in and positively impact our special teams in multiple ways. |

I don't know what it means, really, but the Bronco media relations folks have always been very secretive...if that's the right word...evasive, maybe...about Hixon.
I mean, they draft this kid in the 4th round to general applause among draftniks, stash him on IR, and never a word about his progress...even in the season ending press releases. I've read & heard that this kid has tremendous speed & might even be a gem KR, but the team seems awfully reluctant to talk about him, and that's curious...at best. I hope I'm totally wrong about all this & the guy comes in and lights it up, but sheesh the FO has treated this subject like some kind of franchiuse secret. Must've been one crushed foot to keep him out of mini-camps, training camp, regular season & now questions about his ability to play THIS year. A KR guy on the second day might not be a bad idea. |

Johnnie Lee Higgins also adds value as a receiver, and actually good value. Neither of them will last to our pick(s) in the sixth round. Maybe Clowney.
As for Wolfe, I think it's a pipe dream he's there at our picks now. He is up to 190 pounds (15 more than what he played at) and had some of the best running back work out times so far this year, he's still small - but players like him tend to go higher and higher every year. I think he has a chance to make a late day one appearance, but he'll probably be off the boards in the late-fourth area, perhaps in the compensatory selections. |

Dead last in the league in starting field position.
As much as I think he's a Peter Warrick/Desmond Howard clone - i'd take Ginn Jr on the first day and be happy. We HAVE to improve our starting field position - it's a stat that is far too overlooked. How many QB's/Offienses can march 80-90 yards consistently? Not many - we need to shorten the playing field to give our team a chance. |

If we go shopping for a return guy I'd want to get Lorenzo Booker, he fills a need as a #3 RB who can be a legit speed threat and he'd be real dangerous as a return guy.
Selvin Young wouldn't be a bad option if we could get him in the 6th. Wolfe interests me, so does Alonzo Coleman out of Hampton, he could develop well as an RB and has the speed to be a return guy while he gets up to NFL speed. I like Yamon Figurs a lot but I don't think he'll ever be anything as a WR. Great special teamer, but I wouldn't want to take him on the first day and at this point I think someone just might. |

How about Ryne Robinson from Univ. Miami of Ohio. He might be a great slot wr/return specialist.

I'm starting to think I could live with Figurs @ 85.

This is what confuses me. Hixon must be either the Broncos secret WMD or be a total bust in either health or ability. I am hoping he's who we hope he is. Lot of folk here seem to like Morgan, but if memory serves me correctly he had all of his positive stats in 2 games and was less than average in the others. Broncs must know by now what they have in Hixon. Guess we will know on Draft day how they feel. I know Figurs has great speed and has been a gunner in coverage, but damn is e little. |

I would take Figurs in round 6 if still around, but not higher than that. I al also hoping that Hixon is the answer and can maybe one day be a useful 3rd receiver.

Seriously? Over say, Lorenzo Booker, Paul Soliai, Quincy Black, etc.? #85 is going to offer a lot of guys who could be real contributors on the starting lineups. I like Figurs, lord knows in the Hula Bowl he showed off a top gear no one else in the game could come close to matching, but he's a special teamer with little potential to break out of it. Doesn't seem worth a first to me when we already have Morgan, a proven NFL return guy, and Hixon, a dynamic college returner.
I'd like to add someone to the mix but I'd prefer it to be someone with starter potential. I feel the same way about our coverage unit, we need to add some athletic guys that can potentially develop into legitimate starters. I think this is often missed here, our return men themselves are only half the problem. Our STs return unit as a whole is weak, as is our coverage unit. Our roster just isn't deep in athletes, its a lot of UDFAs and old vets. Those guys are fine to have as the fundamentally sound backbone of a special teams unit, but we've got no playmakers. Without playmakers we're just running the STs equivalent of the prevent defense. |

Figurs would have a better chance at wr than Wolfe would at rb for us. Walker, Marshall, Smith (near retirement), Stokley (returning from injury, age) and from there we have a bunch of guys that could do something but haven't yet. At the RB position we have Henry and Bell - Wolfe would fit into this equation but I would take Figurs becuase he could be a legit deep threat in the 4wr set as well as helping our starting field position. |

Our depth is pretty good, but it has been poor translating into ST's. This should be better if they finally get a few Practice squad guys to make the team like Cameron Vaughn. |
