Default Computer parts (to benefit "The Rev")

All,

If anyone has any spare computer parts laying around, I'd love to put them to use for a good cause. I'm going to put together as many working computers as I can to donate to the "Rev" http://www.therev.org/

Please, anything extra you may have, processors, motherboards, video cared, OS install discs, etc... that you aren't and likely won't use would be a huge help.

Thanks,
Ben

Right on Ben...We needed a seperate thread for this as the other one got a bit political.

I'm heading down to Denver this week. I planned on visiting Revs office to check out their computer situation. Maybe you could meet me over there on your lunch break or something?

I have a running list of people who wanted to donate Ben. I can pm them and maybe they can ship that stuff to you.

I was thinking we'd need someone like yourself to piece all this together.

I'm bringing down a basically new Dell monitor and was just planning on ordering another new complete system from Dell to donate but maybe that money would be better spent on piecing some together if we run short on parts? Maybe I could fill in the gaps so we could have 4 nice decent systems. That is all they need/want as far as computers go. There are plenty of other ways for people to help if you don't have extra computer stuff.

I got junk all over the place but don't know what goes where.

I'd rather just give the Rev this one with lots of porn on the HD...It only cost 350. It's a really good computer.

lol Mock. With over 1,700 active membes on here I'm sure we all have enough spare parts laying around to help Revs organization with Ben's help.

Ben I have a list of people who've expressed interest in helping Rev out. I'll pm it to you.

Actually the computers are for Revs staff Ratboy. He has a full time staff of 4 and 18 other part time people. Their computers are really outdated. I suppose if they had extra computers they could set up a learning center of some sort.

I have an old AMD XP 1600+ with 256 MB of ram and a 64MB DDR ATI Radeon Graphics Card machine with a 17" viewsonic I might be able to get back at my mom's house (my old machine) that's still a decent computer, Windows XP and has some good programs (like Photoshop, etc) that I could hopefully send. With my laptop now; I don't need it.

I'll try and get on that, I'd love to help out and I'll see what they have here at NDSU's tech center because they usually get rid of some for free or little o' nothing.

I took apart my old Compaq after I bought my Mac.... I still have a couple of 256mb ram sticks and an Athalon 64k processor... I also still have the video card and the mother board although I'm not sure how well they work.

I'll try and remmember about it next time I go up to Ponte Vedra to go to the post office.

Ben,

I have a computer I was going to take down mid week and one from a friend which might need a little work. How about I get them to you and we can donate the computer equipment in one batch.

I am also collecting sporting equipment from friends to donate. I have basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and baseball/softball equipment. Anyone else have things to donate can pm me and I will get it rounded up and ready to take to the Rev.

Right on BigGuy. My trip to Denver is under delay. I was going to head down today but looks like it will be later this week.

I like the idea of rolling into their office with 4 functioning systems BigGuy. The thing is though if people donate they are entitled to a break on their taxes so if we donate in "bulk" it will be hard for for open door to determine who donated what. Just a thought. It's no big deal if people just want to send No1 some stuff. I suppose he could try and keep track of who sent what?

My issue is I'm just not real savy with computers and all I've been told about their computers systems is that they are VERY OLD. The goal is to update their systems so they can become more efficient. We don't want to send them a bunch of stuff that doesn't accomplish this.

Keep inmind that cash donations are also needed if anyone wants to go that route. All of their contact info is on the site.

Terri is "Revs" direct assistant so you can ask for her. I've explained to her that I'm a member of a Broncos fan site and that there are some people out there who want to help Rev's organization out so she won't be surprised if you call/email.

This is an ongoing thing. Rev's been fighting gangs in Denver for over 20 years now. When I first spoke to him shortly after D-will was murdered I told him myself/others wanted to help. Rev's response to me was "Great let's see how many people still have that feeling 3 weeks from now as many people will forget".

My response to Rev was "We won'tforget and you are going to be hearing more from me/us". I'm really pleased to see this little project taking shape. It's one thing to remember D-will, mourn for him, but I believe it is our responsibility as Broncos fans to give back to the Denver community that he provided so much for. This is just one step of many of things we can do to honor his life and help out.

Ok I sent Terri an email asking her to join the site. This way she can speak directly to everyone and that should streamline some things.

She'll have alot more info on what is going on, what is needed, etc...

Great idea Meck. I am sure we can figure a ways to get tax receipts to everyone. They just need to let us know the receipt is needed.

I reformatted an old Dell PIII, 128meg ram & Nic.

I put Windows 2000 on it as that is what it was purchased with & can be traced to on the Dell website, via dell Service Tag in event of an Audit.

I have at least 2 more PIII's I am working on.

I have Keyboards, Mice & power cords, but need Monitors for them.

If you can send in Monitors please do!

Meck,
Let me know what they have and/or need. Worst case scenario, I can get them some PIII 1.0Ghz Compaq DeskPro ENs (integrated video) and maybe some monitors (15" LCD, a few 19" CRT's and maybe 17" CRT). How are they set for networking gear, etc? Send me an email or PM> I might be able to get them some relatively solid stuff..especially if we mix and match some stuff.
I can also help provide knowledge in certain areas as I am an IT guy and have IT buddies. I might be able to get a server or 3, some switches and who knows what else.
LET'S HOOK THE REV UP! You can have that gal PM or you can email or whatever. I'll give out my email addy via PM.

Right on Silverado. Welcome to the mane bro. Sounds like a nice list you got there. The way I see it the police can wage war on the streets and we can help wage a high tech battle online. The power of a network of computers and people can do alot of great things. Ie. The orangemane and this little project.

Clarkster: You may want to send them an email and call first for tax purposes if you are looking for a deduction which you are entitled to.

*update* Just got off the phone with Terri Revs assistant. She will be registering to the site probably tomorrow to field questions and give us all some better direction. She's real busy working on a volunteer fair to get people involved with the program.

We were kicking around the idea of shifting the computers we all update for staff for a learning center for the kids since they don't have one.

Regarding donations and tax credits.... if you have a list of who donated, they can give each person a letter and each person who donated can fill in their own value. Similar to what Goodwill and Salvation Army do. All that is needed is the 501(c)3 status information from the non profit organization for an individual to use as a deduction.
