Default Hillary ....."if elected president , we stay in Iraq"

Senator Clinton: If elected president, we will stay in Iraq
RAW STORY

"Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton foresees a “remaining military as well as political mission” in Iraq, and says that if elected president, she would keep a reduced but significant military force there to fight Al Qaeda, deter Iranian aggression, protect the Kurds and possibly support the Iraqi military," reports the New York Times.

Clinton said a "scaled-down American military force" would stay in Iraq but off the streets of Baghdad. The force would also not get involved in sectarian violence "even if it descended into ethnic cleansing," writes Michael Gordon and Patrick Healy.

Excerpts follow:
#

The United States’ security would be undermined if parts of Iraq turned into a failed state “that serves as a petri dish for insurgents and Al Qaeda,” she said. “It is right in the heart of the oil region. It is directly in opposition to our interests, to the interests of regimes, to Israel’s interests.”

“So I think it will be up to me to try to figure out how to protect those national security interests and continue to take our troops out of this urban warfare, which I think is a loser,” Mrs. Clinton added. She declined to estimate the number of American troops she would keep in Iraq, saying she would draw on the advice of the military officers who would have to carry out the strategy.

Mrs. Clinton has said she would vote for a proposed Democratic resolution on Iraq now being debated on the floor of the Senate, which sets a goal of redeploying all combat forces by March 31, 2008. Asked if her Iraq plan was consistent with the resolution, Mrs. Clinton and her advisers said it was, noting that the resolution also called for “a limited number” of troops to stay in Iraq to protect the American Embassy and other personnel, train and equip Iraqi forces, and conduct “targeted counter-terrorism operation.”

I can't keep up with her anymore. She's done. I'm just curious would anyone really vote for her to be president? I'm serious?

For the sake of this country I really hope the dems converge on somebody else.

We've had a recent **** up with Bush, let's not perpetuate the problem by going with her.

Is it me, or do al of the potential presidents have huge glaring issues?

Clinton...psychopath
Bama...Flaming liberal despite being well spoken and possessing good charm
McCain...no longer the rebal people initially thought, and in bed with Bush
Guilianni...was a mayor, and before 9-11 didn't do anything. I have a hard time voting for a guy who became an icon because of a terroist attack when that person didn't do a damn thing.

And yet in polls of likely candidates, of those favoring Hillary, 60% said they
would definitely vote for her for president. While of those favoring Obama,
two thirds weren't strongly for him, and could be persuaded to vote for
someone else. With the machine the Clintons have, unless something
drastic happens before February, I'd say Clinton is a lock for the nominee.

he cleaned up Gotham not enough. sure he has a soap opera life I thought you would have went along those lines instead of not a good mayor. he planed and re planned for a disaster. His local government was more prepared then fema was with a freaking hurricane which of course can be tracked and dealt with (know what is coming) unlike an attack.

Recently VPs have tended to make lousy presidents anyway. Johnson, Nixon, Bush 41.
And it was years before Truman was appreciated.
Can you imagine what things would be like if Cheney was president?

no one would even give him a chance four heart attacks come on his health isn't all that and evidently his sight isn't either mistaken a long life friend for a bird to be hunted. He knew he couldn't be president and doesn't have the people skills for the job any how.

I don't think leaving Iraq all together would be a very good idea. I for one breath a sigh of relief to hear her say that. Does Obama say a total pullout?

I just wonder when Hillary is going to admit she's actually running for the Republican nomination?

I think Obama has also said there'd be a remaining small force to track al queda and help train Iraqis. It would be sort of nuts to not keep anti-terrorist forces there. No manning check points and doing traffic control ... only bushii wants that. Even McCain, I assume, wants to end this multi-national tragedy.

I doubt I'd vote for Hill, and I plan to register Dem for the primary to vote for Obama .... though if Rudy has a shot, I might vote for him.

But it's not about staying in Iraq. We have anti-terrorist troops in the Phillipean (sp) Islands. You can bet the Aussies have guys ready to go into Indonesia (if they're not secretely there now). We had/have guys in Yemen. By invading we totally fubared and created a terrorist haven, but it's water under the bridge. The next potus will have to face the fact that the sunni area, at least, will give some cover to al queda for the forseeable future.

My beef with Hill is that she didn't have the stones of even Hagel. Voting to authorize force BEFORE Saddam let the inspectors in was the right thing. However, bushii was supposed to tell congress why force was still necessary BEFORE invading. With bushii at 60%+ in the polls, very few in congress questioned the invasion when it happened. Hagel did, and so did McCain ... sort of. Hill kept quiet and did "the smart thing."

The sheep bought the line that womd were a danger to us, but those who were watching knew it was a lie. Some who were watching thought that it was still a good idea to get rid of Saddam, though I think even some of those may rethink that one.
