Since the mid majors and crap conferences are irrelevant...
We've had some doosies. Miami upsetting Maryland is a shocker if I ever saw one. Not sure that FSU over Clemson is an upset or not, but wow did Clemson ever sink this year (like OkState). Oregon absolutely DESTROYED Zona today, anyone catch that? Good God. And probably the biggest upset of the majors thus far is Cal over UCLA (just finished). Wow. I mean, wow. UCLA was a virtual lock for a #1 seed, but now after losing their finale and losing in their first game in the PAC 10 Tourney, they may drop down to a 2 seed and leave the door open for Florida or NC. Duke is getting all they want and then some from NCSt right now but there is still lots of time left for NC State to blow it or Coach K to pull off some more of that coaching magic he is apt to pull of. Hate duke but got much respect for Coach K and his skills as a coach. As it stands, my #1 seeds are OSU, KU, Wisconsin and Florida. Of course, dependant on how conference tourney's go that can change as I see zero of these as absolute locks for 1 seeds. If OSU and Wisconsin meet in the conference final, the winner will get the #1 seed for certain and the loser may still get one depending on how KU, Florida and NC all do in their conference tourney's. Since all three of those teams dont have cakewalk conferences and as evidenced by the PAC 10 upsets and already the upseting of Maryland, its still up for grabs. Meanwhile, keep an eye out for Memphis who, unlike the other teams vying for 1 seeds, plays poor competition all year long and may get strong consideration for a darkhorse 1 seed particularly if the power teams of the high majors slip early in their conference tourney's. I got my top 8 here: 1) OSU 2) KU 3) Wisconsin 4) Florida 5) UCLA 6) UNC 7) TAMU 8) Memphis Of those, OSU, KU, TAMU and Memphis are the only ones not showing signs of slippage. TAMU did lose to Texas in Austin in a very memorable game, but it most certainly wasnt due to bad play on their part, but rather amazing play from Durant. |

Wooooooooo! My Buffs totally dominated the Big XII tourney yet again. The record still stands... My buffs have now exited in the first round more than any team since the inception of the Big XII than any other squad! W00t!
Alec, those Hawks gonna b****slap the Aggies if they meet?

Nice to see Wyoming hand a L to Air Force today, hopefully they come out and beat BYU so I can have an excuse to go to Vegas.

Thought so.
They do deserve a #1 seed as of right now. If/when a #1 seed loses in the first round who do you think it would be? Anyone? I going with either Arizona or Kansas. |

I hope Duke is the first team to ever lose to a 16 seed.

WooooooT!
The only problem with Duke and Maryland both losing in the ACC tourney so early is that it leaves UNC an easy road. |

Duke = NIT bantha fodder (I wished anyway)
I was stuck listening to the Pac-10 games today on the radio. Ugh... I would really love to see that whole conference go bye bye well before we get to the sweet 16 just to shut up the bandwagoners here.

UCLA's loss opens up a chance for a team like A&M or UNC to get a No. 1 seed.
NO TEAM HAS EVER WON A CHAMPIONSHIP LOSING A FIRST-ROUND TOURNAMENT GAME WHEN RANKED IN THE TOP 10. That's in caps for emphasis. Championship week is my favorite week, more so than the NCAAs. This is great. It started Saturday w Winthrop's thrilling win over VCU. VCU's stirring win over George Mason. And a sidenote, if Drexel or Old Dominion do not make the tourney, I will tell Billy Packer and Jim Nantz to SHOVE IT. |

NO. 1 SEED GEORGETOWN SURGES AHEAD, HOLDS ON AGAINST NO. 9 VILLANOVA, 62-57
Hoyas to take on winner of No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 5 Syracuse at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN Friday night March 8, 2007 NEW YORK (AP) -Roy Hibbert scored eight of his 14 points in No. 9 Georgetown's opening 26-2 run, and the Hoyas held on for a 62-57 victory over ninth-seeded Villanova in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament Thursday. A rested Georgetown (24-6), the tournament's top seed, came out shooting, and a weary-looking Villanova couldn't find the basket early. The Wildcats made a game of it in the closing minutes, but the huge first-half deficit was too much to overcome. DaJuan Summers got things started with a 3-pointer 2:22 in and the Hoyas kept going from there. Georgetown was up 14-0 before Curtis Sumpter finally got Villanova (22-10) on the scoreboard with a jumper 7:20 into the game. The Hoyas followed with a 12-0 run to go up 26-2 at 9:28 on Jeff Green's layup, and opened leads to as big as 25 points three times. Green, the Big East player of the year, added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Hoyas, who shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) and advanced to Friday's semifinal game against the winner of the Notre Dame-Syracuse game later Thursday. Georgetown has won 13 of its last 14. Sumpter scored 18 points for Villanova, which beat DePaul on Wednesday but had its four-game losing streak end. The Wildcats just couldn't get their offense going in the first half - shooting 27 percent (6-of-22) compared to the Hoyas' 57 percent (16-of-28). Trailing 37-18 at halftime, the Wildcats came out for the second half more energized. Villanova cut a 22-point deficit late in the first half to 10 with a 14-2 run, capped by Scottie Reynolds' 3-pointer 5:19 in. After falling behind again by 17, Villanova hung tough down the stretch and made the Hoyas and their fans sweat it out a little bit. Jessie Sapp made one of two free throws to give Georgetown a 56-45 lead with 1:43 left, but Villanova stormed back. Sumpter made two of three free throws with 27.9 seconds remaining to make it 59-54, the Wildcats' lowest deficit since Hibbert's layup that gave the Hoyas a 5-0 lead less than 4 minutes into the game. But Georgetown wasn't about to set another tournament record for the biggest blown halftime lead - the Hoyas lost to Syracuse in last year's semifinals after leading by 15. Sapp made one of two free throws and Hibbert dunked before Sumpter hit a 3 as time expired. The teams reversed offensive woes in the second half, with the Hoyas going just 7-of-25 (28 percent) from the field, while the Wildcats were 13-of-29 (44.8 percent). Villanova recovered from the dismal first half to finish 37.3 percent from the field, going 19-of-51 overall. Villanova senior guard Mike Nardi, sidelined for most of the DePaul game after injuring his left ankle last Saturday against Syracuse, played a little more in this one, but wasn't much of a factor on offense. He went scoreless and had two assists in 8 minutes. |

Georgetown finally getting payback for losing to Nova in the greatest college basketball upset EVER.
but not really since no one will remember this and no one will forget Nova taking it to the heavily favored over-rated Hoyas. |
