Paul Stastny of the Avalanche put up 2 assists tonight to extend his points streak to 17 games, tying the NHL record for consecutive games with a point by a rookie. He now shares the record with Teemu Selanne and will have a chance to break it on Sunday in Minnesota.
Stastny's 17 game points streak is also the longest scoring streak by any player (rookie or otherwise) in the NHL this season. ![]() ![]() The kid's got designer genes. ![]() |

When you enter the NHL already missing teeth, you know it's a serious playa...
Congrats to young Stasney. And for getting my hopes up again! |

This kid is going to be a good player.....another great find by Av scouts.
Except I have one problem, I'm a Canucks fan and can't stand the Avs.... It's so nice to see you guys on the outside this year, it's about damn time you guys missed the playoffs. |

It's pretty amazing to think that I (and many others) were just hoping that Stastny would make the team out of training camp. I admit to thinking originally that he went pro a year too early. So much for that idea, he's proven that he's ready for prime time.
He, Hejduk & Budaj have put this team on their backs and are keeping their faint playoff hopes alive. |

Congrats to Statsny. Can't help but be psyched about our future with Stats, Wolski, Svatos, Liles, and Budaj. Heck, we're on a 5 game winning streak and back within 6 points of making the playoffs this year. It has been a pleasant surprise to see how well we've played on this nasty road trip, including games at Detroit and Buffalo.

Move over Teemu, we've got a new record holder.
Stastny picked up an assist on Milan Hejduk's first period power play goal to extend his points streak to 18 games, a new NHL record. ![]() |

Not at all. The difference is that everyone knew that Wolski was making the team this year after his brief showing with the big club last season and the video game numbers he put up in Brampton.
The Avs have got themselves a pair of keepers in these two. I just can't believe how Stastny has come on so strong at the point in the season in which you'd think he might be hitting the rookie wall. |

The Avs do have some good young players. Almost makes you wonder if they should have just traded their established vets before the deadline to get more young talent in there. It wouldn't have been a popular move, but it would have set them up for a tremendous future.

On the topic at hand...Stastny looks like a vet on the ice...he's calm with the puck...has good vision, and plays hard at both ends of the ice. |

I love our young forwords, but I still think that blue line's been missing Foote since they let him walk a couple years back...

though speaking of the future, the Avs should have some cap space this offseason with Bries,May,Theodore & etc coming off the books, that's about what 9-11 mil?

Stoa will be our new power forward we have been missin since deadmarshes departure. 6-3 and a bit over 200 pounds (right now) and Hensick is going to be good.. |

Is Theodore's contract done this year, or do we have another year of paying our backup goalie 6 million?

i thought he only had 2 years left on his deal when we got him, 5.5 mil the 1st year & 6.5 this year or am i wrong?
Stoa is probably the player i'm most excited about cause of his size & he was seen as a 1st rounder by some(+ he was in the same draft as Statsny if i remember correctly) Hensick is sick(homerish, i'm a UM fan) |

Theodore has a year left on his contract. The Avs will likely buy him out which will result in a cap hit of 1.3 million in 07-08 and 2.0 million in 08-09.
Hensick is probably the Avs most ready NHL prospect. Stoa has been inconsistent. His size is nice and he will create traffic in front of the net, but he's not an overly physical player. I see him more of a grinding type player rather then a power forward; definately has a lot more developing to do. I like Stewart's potential better (though work ethic issues have creeped in this year), but the under the radar prospect is David Jones out of Dartmouth. He's physical, has soft hands, could be the Avs version of Dustin Penner. Last edited by Jori; 03-11-2007 at 06:59 PM.. |

Stoa needs to go back to Minnesota for another year. He hasn't looked anywhere near ready to challenge for a spot in the NHL.
The Avs #1 priority should be getting Hensick signed once Michigan's season ends. I wouldn't mind seeing him get a taste of the NHL at the end of this regular season. I really like Chris Stewart because it seems like even if he doesn't evolve into a scorer at the NHL level, he can still be an Ian Laperriere type who'll play physical and drop the gloves. Hopefully there aren't any dreaded work ethic issues or he could go the Mikhail Kuleshov route. |

Stewart seems to have followed a similar pattern to his older brother Anthony. I always envisioned that Chris would be a 2nd/3rd line PF. He was made captain of the Frontenacs and the team has been pretty mediocre (injuries part of the problem) this season. I'm not worried about him. He knows he'll have to work hard to make it.
I agree about Hensick, the Avs need to sign him quickly; don't let this drag out to August where you lose him as a free agent. I think he'll get a better contract then Stastny. Luckily for the Avs there is a cap on the base salary, but I imagine TJ will get some nice bonuses. I could see Henick playing with Albany as they have a good shot of making the playoffs. If the Wolverines make it to the Frozen Four, the Avs season will be pretty much over at that point. For those not familiar with Hensick, he's a bit smaller then Stastny. Both Paul and TJ are good passers, but TJ is a flashier player and better skater. I'm watching a tape of last night's Michigan/Northern Michigan game right now and two faceoff wins by Hensick led directly to Wolverines goals. TJ was more of a one-trick pony early in his college career, but he's really molded himself into a good two-way player. I believe Stastny will turn out to be the best player from the 05 draft crop for the Avs, but to think they got Hensick out of that draft and a 7th rounder in Cumiskey from that same draft. Macias is having a great year for Kamloops, Mercier is developing nicely. Fritsche's development took a hit due to his illness, but I believe he can be an NHLer in time. What a great draft, despite what's looking like to be a bust in Durand and Stoa's inconsistencies. Now if this team could only draft defensemen like they do forwards. |
